Change the impeller jug, that should solve your problem.

    Thanks Dave,
I saw the connectors you are referring to, the plastic holder was a bit flimsy so I wanted to make sure there are no hidden clips.
I will sort this out when I have the brushes.

I’m not sure on this one. I couldn’t find a way of doing it.

Re: Bosch FL, dispenser and fascia melted, I’m baffled!

I hadn’t posted an update on this as I have been in China for a couple of weeks.

I have checked with the customer and the machine has worked without any problems since my original visit (3 weeks ago)so I don’t know what the cause of this was.

I am going to replace the fascia, dispenser and NTC and see what happens in the future.

It is possible the damage could have been caused by an external heat source rather than a fault with the machine but there is no way of knowing, the tenant is hardly likely to admit to it.

Wiring looks OK, it was initially test empty but has been used for at least 6 washes and not given any further problem.
If the information is correct about it happening within about 15 minutes then I doubt it would have been the NTC but I can’t guarantee it was that quick so I think the best option will be replace the NTC as suggested and see what happens.

Usually when a tenant is after another machine or something else they would be passing comments about the age of the machine and that it’s damaged the washing. They haven’t even hinted at this.

The door seal appears to be OK.

Martin wrote:But it would be steam and not smoke that melted the dispenser drawer and fascia.

According to the user the clothes inside had not shrunk or scorched.

The customer claims the smoke/steam smelt like something burning. The dispenser handle had discoloured slightly as well as distorted from heat

Logic suggests that it had to be steam because the element is still OK and there are no other sources of heat in the machine but surly the machine would have had to be on for hours to cause that sort of damage (wouldn’t it)?

Re: Bosch FL, dispenser and fascia melted, I’m baffled!

I thought I put that in my original post 😳

    Model No: WAA24166GB/24

If it was the NTC/Heater then I would have expected excess steam rather than smoke as described by the user. Also if it had got that hot wouldn’t the ‘boil dry’ protector be O/C and the clothes be ruined? Also it would have taken more than 15 minutes to get to that sort of temperature.

I did check the air chamber, but thought if it was this then I would have expected the machine to be empty and the clothes and drum would smell of it.

Admittedly I am taking on board a lot of what the user has explained and know this can not always be relied on!

iadom wrote:TBH, is it happened after only 15 minutes as she says then it doesn’t sound like a boiling problem.

That’s what I thought, which suggests it may have been smoke but still can’t fathom out what could have caused it, the only thing in the vicinity of the dispenser is the PCB but if that had caused it the fascia would have melted in the middle also it would be highly unlikely to run through a wash trouble free.

    Still can’t fathom this out.

Have to disagree with that. I have seen many Hotpoint machines in the past with the dispenser and drawer badly distorted by excessive heat, usually due to machine boiling over. The drum is designed to withstand boiling water, the dispenser and drawer are not.

Had the machine got hot enough to do that sort of damage would it not have taken out the TOC in the element, also the tenant hadn’t found any problem with the clothes in the machine at the time?
Also she seemed quite sure she saw and smelled smoke not steam.

That would make sense, as it appeared to have 2 heating stages but when on 90deg I doubt it got above 40 for the first heat stage and the second wasn’t very long.

I have already suggested they de-scale to save element future element problems so hopefully it might come up a bit closer to temperature as well.

    Thanks Seamy

    Hi Seamy,
    Thanks for the reply,

How can scale prevent it from heating enough?

Logic suggests it would take longer to heat as the element is will be insulated but surely the timer wouldn’t move on until the machine has required resistance from the NTC?
Or will this machine continue if it hasn’t reached sufficient temperature within a required time?

Just double checked, it is the correct model.
