Brilliant thanks – any idea what the cost is likely to be if it is faulty?

hi Penguin45 basically its like this we have children and one is in the autistic spectrum he is
in and out of the fridge all day its very had to keep watching over him even when we are all having food and sat down because he don’t understand that the door needs to be checked and part from that when other family use the freezer people forget to check the door is shut ,question two everything has been tried even tilting it back the feet are on its last treads basically the door should not open in the first place because on top of the problem i am losing energy trough the door just opening and it stay’s open the design is crap and even the cheap ones do not have this problem you don’t buy a product to watch over it 24 7 days a week we never had this problem from any other freezer we have had over the years and i would think twice in buying another frost free freezer with this problem with the door opening when the bottom one is shut .i have checked all the freezer’s in comet and its the only one that i could find that done this

    Dave,

Many thanks I have ordered the part.

Any hints on where the relay is located in the machine? Or is it obvious when I get the machine apart.

    Many Thanks

    Re: LG REFRIGERATOR GRT452GVA

the normal cause of this problemis that the appliance is tilting slightly forward and that you are pushing and letting the door close with more force than needed thus forcing air from the fridge compartment back into the freezer compartment therefore the door will open in the freezer.

the way this and most frost free fridge/freezers work is as follows.

the freezer compartment has the actual components to make the appliance cold, the freezer is conected to the fridge via air channels,as the freezer gets cold a fan blows air at a low flow into the fridge compartment through vents at the back or top of the fridge and draws it back into the freezer at the duct at the bottom of the fridge thus making the fridge cold, when the correct temp is reached in the fridge the air channel closes.

    hope this helps

    Re: LG REFRIGERATOR GRT452GVA

hi thanks for the reply the problem all started last July when we lost our first loss of £86.36
comet came out to inspect it and they said the freezer door was at fault and the seal on the top door needed changing which, I have in a report left by the engineer stating the door seal needs changing but when the engineer reported back to the service center it all went quiet for a week or two and then I phoned up comet to find out what and why the engineer did not come back as stating on the fault report but then i found out they are classing it a manufacture specification and no repair was made so i made my complaint to LG and they put me in touch with expert appliance who came out on three times to view the fault and they also said it was faulty but when they returned to there service department they same excuse was made its a manufacture specification and it can’t be repaired so here come’s the next step we lost another load of food about a three weeks ago because the door on the freezer stayed open once again and the ice had melted and cracked the ice cube box so the food was unfit for human consuming so I complained again to expert appliance who came out last Friday and put a new seal on the freezer and the food loss was vi wed a week before and it was sighed by expert appliance by them in person and the fault was to stay even with a new seal being replaced and its worse since they have repaired it so we can’t use the top freezer at all due to the fault because all comet want to do is keep paying us out food claims but its not solving the problem that i have ,we have an extended warrantee with comet for the next 2 years so i do hope if they don’t change this heap of crap they will continue to pay up every time it fails and as for LG i will never in my life buy any of Lg products for as long as i live because there after sales service is crap and they should never sell there products to comet with out warrantees because it make’s there product look all crap and if it was under LG it would be a different matter but i will have the last laugh i am going to peruse this trough court and i will never throw in the white flag and till i have my say and i will let the courts decide my fate ,any one what there say about by problem please leave there our message’s they will be appreciated

Re: Samsung SR-608EV, suspect refrigerator fan fail

    Update:
Whilst letting the unit defrost I’ve been more adventurous with dismantling and located the fans in both the refrigerator and freezer compartments. The refrigerator fan had ice preventing it from moving. This has now cleared enough to free the fan blades. I am pleased to report following a brief test period that the fan now works again. I will leave the unit disconnected and open to defrost further overnight and maybe until tomorrow night before reassembling and running normally. I guess then it’s just wait and see if the problem recurs.

Thanks again for your tip, Dave.

Re: Pump needed for “Diplomat 8502” Washing Machin

    hi

have you checked that there is not a blockage where the waste pipe goes into the waste system under your sink?.

take the hose off whatever connection you have under the sink and put the hose into a bucket,if it pumps the water out then its yourwaste blocked,if you feel a pressure build up while on the hose it may well be you have a blockage in the washing machine waste pipe normally caused by grease build up from your sink, try to tap or knock the washing machine waste pipe along its length it may have a sludge build up.

    hope this helps

Re: Faulty 8702 flooded our downstairs flat

Au contraire Ken…i have seen quite a number of valves leak by particularly on washer dryers where the dryer inlet valve has a flow restrictor preventing a full flush of the valve when its on.
They are simple devices really…when the coil is energised it magnetically lifts a plunger to reveal a small pinhole in the diaphragm. This allows water to seep through equalising the pressure on both sides of the diaphragm causing it to float off its seat and let the water past and around its edges.
When the coil is de-energised a spring returns the plunger to cap the pinhole and the inlet water pressure then forces the diaphragm back down onto its seat to close off the flow.
Therefore the higher the water pressure the more positive they are in their action but if a foreign body gets trapped under the edge of the diaphragm then water can seep past it.
The maximum pressure rating quoted is simply the sheer pressure required to cause catastrophic failue i.e. the valve simply bursting wide open.
The solution to the initial query is simply to replace the valve IMO…as to reclaiming damages well pragmatism has a part to play. The manufacturers would most likely just wear the claim as the vavle could be deemed to be faulty by any measure applied…they do come with a filter which failed to stop a damaging foreign object from entering after all.
