Re: Contract vs Chargeable (A History)

A very good post with sensible answers, dave.

I think you cover most of the facts and whilst I also don’t work for quite a few WP’s, its easy to find info on them in these pages.

As for manufacturer work, again many posters hold agencies but I suspect few manufacturers would be pleased with their agent, telling it straight, good and bad as its usually a mix.

As you point out contract rates are in some cases good and reasonable with MFI, Elba, LG all at £40.00 or above. This is for in guarantee work. So if these manufacturers can do it….why can’t they all do it.
As has been said above, its about what works best for you, but if you think about the work offered at poor rates and low Ber payment also consider how you can improve the situation by saying NO thanks. If enough say NO then its the WP/Manufacturer who has to rethink, perhaps improving the climate for the whole of the industry.
I am sure there is competition between WP’s for contracts and their biggest cost when pricing is our labour….think about it.

Good work at good rates…not so hard to “want that” is it?

Thanks for your advice. Sounds like I’m going to need an engineer to visit.

As far as the flashes go, there is no pause as such. It simply flashes continuously every other second or so.

I’ll pull it out tomorrow and see if I can have a poke around a bit.

    Re: Siemens fridge/freezer help please.

    Folks

I’m trying to help out a buddy who has a KGV-3104, and I’m told that the ‘Siemens kit’ is no more than a crimp-bullet to bypass the failed thermistor.

Can someone who has used the kit pls advise on what the instructions contain, and maybe post a scan of the instr. sheet. Does anyone have a schematic, I guess that the two thermistor are wired in //, and that they fail short cct. If wired series, then bypassing the failed thermistor would give the wrong resistance ?

Anyone who has actually done this – all thoughts welcome.

    Thanks for that Martin,

Well, since I have no extended warranty, I guess I’ll be down to Currys this afternoon to get a new washing machine… Not an Ariston though, that’s for sure! 😡 Maybe a Bosch…

    Thanks for the advice!

    Hi Penguin
Yeah I did turn on the water treble checked. Ill check the res of the solenoid & trace back the wires if possible as I expect they will go back to the timer board eventually. Could always change over the hot solenoid and use cold fill but use more electric I suppose.
Yes I will pull the plug as its safety 1st.
How much is a solenoid & does it have to be for this machine?

Hi, Thanks for all your help. 🙂

    My postcode is E1 4TJ.

    Cheers Mate! 😛

Thanks guys, will check the timer knob/pcb board and megger the heater. The red door lock light does come on when you switch on the machine. I presume the door can be opened at any point if the interlock switch has Failed?

Didn’t have a plastic water shield fitted and saw no burn marks on the lid or machine casing.

    Cheers for the quick response!

Hopefully Woz may be able to help as he used to work for Caremark, I’ll ask him to look in to it 🙂

You may have a wait of a few days on this one I’m afraid, it’s very unlikely anyone will have these in stock 🙁

    Dave.

    Dave and Woz
Better news – I foind the old handbook and it gave a number for Caremark – 0942 815311. This has now been changed to 08707502435. 😮

Futher good news – they had a female hinge receiver part 77×6696 🙂

Even better news – onlt £21 including delivery and vat 😀

    Bad news – 5-7 days delivery 🙁

Worse News – unfortunately they can’t accept money for overnight delivery
    😥
Even worse news – can’t even drive over to Bolton to pick it up because they don’t allow it (???). 😯

So – does anyone know where I can get part 77×6696 female hinge immediately please?? (including me having to go drive to pick it up if necessary!!!

Only the two main fixings from memory, they are in the same place and the element is the same size but the original has threaded holes and the Ariston one doesn’t, normally just a case of fixing it with a nut and bolt.

Mmm might be tricky for might be easier with the original. is the proline not suitable then ?
