ParticipantRe: Zanussi integrated microwave door.
Thanks very much Colin – looks more and more like the door microswitches. Will try that first.
Of course if anyone else has experience of these microwaves, any info is appreciated. Thanks again!!

Another tip Steve in assessing the state of the drum bearings and its ability to spin , and before attempting to decide whether fitting clutch shoes is a cure all. Release the brake solenoid spring then rotate the drum by hand in the spin direction. Then engage the brake lever in order to stop the drum. The drum should rebound back an inch or three depending on how fast you rotated the drum. If you don’t witness any rebound then the drum shaft/drum support has issues and new clutch shoes won’t secure a lasting fix.
Remember to reattach that brake arm return spring! 8)
Did the rotate back and latch test and the drum was free to turn but latched on rebound as it should. (remembered that from wayyyy back) just received the clutch from Qualtex today so looks like it’s a goodun’.

ParticipantRe: Hoover W/D HNWL6136-60 no dryer heat
Has the safety ‘stats clicked out? There are usually 2 on most Hoover w/d’s. They are the ‘stats on top of the heater chamber with a beige centre button; press down and a ‘click’ will be heard. If so, you should now have power to the heaters. If these ‘stats’ have tripped, then the condenser at the back will need cleaning out; especially the little right angled hose at the bottom.. Fun job!!
If still no power, drier sensor PCB is at the back on the floor of the machine. Check that and the Cuore board for solder dry joints and poor edge connections (clean and refit).Hope that helps!!

ParticipantRe: Extended drain hose causes smell from sink.
Often the smell generated on drain is the sink overflow being full of rotted cr@p – the washer pushes out a very large amount of water that acts like a bicycle pump on the end of the overflow. To check this, wet a rag and hold it tightly over the overflow in the sink; then pump the machine out. If there is no smell, then likely as not the overflow is the culprit. Most modern overflows are like drain hoses (corrugated plastic hoses) they push on a spigot at each end. They usually pull or twist off easy enough; but be ready for the contents……. :death:
Hope that helps,
Steve.

Yep, actually they were pointed – noticed that – so new clutch it is then. Thanks for that Jim.

Attending the last job tonight and just up the road is an Expert Logistics lorry with floor to ceiling old Hotpoint based driers. New machines piled up at the back; new drier being wheeled in to the house……..

Always put a plastic bag or the water shield off a Bosch washer motor over the pump to stop dripping condensation dropping from the tub moulding. IIRC some engineers on the service network were piping a line of silicone from the tub moulding down the side of the tub at an angle to guide the drips to the back of the machine. :rolls:
Instead they could have designed it properly; but that costs money…………Steve.

ParticipantRe: bosch cooker hinges
Look carefully and determine if the door is lower than the horizontal when fully opened. If so, get a large straight screwdriver and with it pointing downwards put the tip of the blade (edge on) in the hinge socket so it just goes behind the sockets lower edge by a few mm’s . Now push the screwdriver handle upwards and towards the front of the oven as if you are shutting the door. A few gentle pushes should do it. Do both sides and refit door. 90{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} of the time the hinges will snap the door shut perfectly. The other 10{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} will be new hinges.
It works…….. 8)Steve.

ParticipantRe: ancient washer Electra AWF682 drain pump
Yes that’s right about the spin…. in those days waiting for a spin cycle was just a case of tweaking the programmer, but not on these. Waiting 10 minutes while it filled and then spun full of water and then switched the pump in. Fun with the 22V DC motor as well. Even a heater fault would stop it spinning…….
Hated doing brushes on them (and Indesit 101’s) as you had to fight to get them out and the tangs would usually break off rather than bend in to remove the brush. That said, very reliable machines.aqualectric
ParticipantRe: Whirlpool to do a recall on Hotpoint dryers
Where are the Merloni bunch while this is all happening? These garbage machines were designed and made on their watch – surely there is some culpability in that? I can’t help feeling a little sorry for Whirlpool fielding all the cr@p for Merloni’s mistakes and having to pay for it as well.
Why are these driers all suddenly catching fire or was it a known issue from the start? I’ve personally never seen one go up and no one I know has either. Maybe a bit of charred fluff, but not a fire. If these fires were as regular as the T.V. suggests, where was all the data from the fire brigades and why wasn’t it all collated and an alert issued? Why didn’t Merloni issue the recall? They had 10 years to realise it after all. Is it because they simply didn’t give a **** or was it possibly because Whirlpool being American were scared of possible litigation and thought it was better to get it out there and over with? Why did they do it while Merloni didn’t?
Bet nobody saw this level of sh*tstorm coming though……. :poo:Steve.

If I remember the wording in the catalogue, EMW only replace the heater relays on dishwasher PCB’s , nothing more. Anyway, the pump isn’t switched by a relay. EMW don’t recon and sell any BSH boards; so stands to reason they wouldn’t be able to cycle test it……. :rolls:

Contact the original manufacturer Crosslee – better known as White Knight driers. The Belling is a White Knight under the skin. They may be able to help you or at least offer some advice. Don’t use it until you seek that advice. 😉

Look carefully at the triacs on the board and one will almost certainly have a piece chipped off – one leg will be exposed. Pump has probably blown that triac……..
Difficult to fit surface mounted components; you can try to solder in another but personally I’ve had limited success…. so new PCB I’m afraid.Hope that helps,
Steve.
