Certainly sounds like the PCB – motor failure would generally show at most points in the cycle. Take the board out and clean and tighten the wiring plugs just in case it’s a poor connection – worth a try!!

Yep, as long as you know the s/h motor is definately OK. EMW route is quicker and if it’s not the timer, it’s only £4.70 + vat to return it. 😉
    Small price to pay.

It’s probably the motor; although these timers sometimes ‘abort’ the cycle if the motor is faulty (same as Indesit slave timer turning round and round, but rotation will stop at first stop mark). I had this problem and motor looked fine but was still u/s.
Cheapest way for you to be sure is to get a timer from EMW (01159)652118 and try it. It’s a VS81 type AKO 513316 (part no. 132055810/7).
I’d still suspect the motor though.
    Hope this helps,

Thanks, Dave: and it’s lucky you had your crystal ball to hand – I can’t believe I posted 2 model no’s for 2 machines – both wrong!! 😳 It takes 23yrs experience to get to that level you know. 😆 😆

Re: NVQ for the Domestic Appliance industry.

A company called Dixon training (www. dixontraining.co.uk) seem to do a course for Dom. App. engineers – they say they train engineers for some of the manufacturers. I don’t know if they train to NVQ 2 or not. I would like to get this Qualification ASAP to avoid the carnage experienced by electricians trying to get last minute training for Part P.
Any feedback on Dixon? Could they help us?
No-one currently running an NVQ (or anything else for that matter) down here in Dorset. Nearest one was Eastleigh College – but it seems they have dropped it due to insufficient applicants- hhmm! 🙄
    Hoping this helps!

Get both from EMW and send back what you don’t use – could be either.

Still doing 6 -7 calls a day this week – booked up ’till Monday. Slowed slightly but I’ve been run ragged since October: glad of the breather as I’ve got to finish my kitchen! 😳 Not too bad, only been doing it since November!!

    Re: Indesit WIL 103

Try removing the plugs from the module and clean the board connection strips. Then gently pinch each plug to tighten it and refit. These suffer from bad edge connectors resulting in intermittent faults. Also uneven wear on the brushes can cause motor and timer rapid advance faults – swap them for a trial even if they only look half worn. 😉
Check pressure bottle and pump /sump hose/ filter as well. If plumbed to the side of a sink trap, is it blocked?
If you still suspect the PCB, get one from EMW (comes complete with e’prom) straight swap! 8)
    Hope this helps!!!

    Re: The Weee Directive

If this rise in prices happens, then possibly our customers will possibly be less likely to scrap machines on a whim, so it should be good for us repairers, yes?
Then can anyone fathom Merloni’s decision to ‘bond’ their washer drums together meaning, in essence that a bearing failure, sock or bra wire in the drum or smelly soap deposits = scrap machine? Doesn’t this fly in the face of what this directive is trying to stop? 😯
I did laugh at Dave’s comment that Merloni should send all their machines from the factory straight to landfill and cut out the middleman 😆 but in the cold light of day this bit of wit is not a million miles adrift from reality.
Will customers now demand a better product for their money? Very few customers I imagine will differenciate between the price of the machine and the disposal charge – but like car tyres will only remember the final bill total?
    Comments please… 😕

The phosphur – bronze bushes in the reduction pulley (2 belt thing) used to wear and turn in the worn pulley body. This sets up a vibration through the base. Quite often you would remove a pulley with no worrying slack and the bushes were ready to fall out. Could be that? Think it’s unlikely to be available anywhere – I haven’t seen one (as a spare) for years +++!!!
It would take all the metal used in 50 modern Merloni machines to make that part!! 😆
If it is a purple door bowl model, could be 30 years easy. Now that’s enviromentally friendly!! 8)

    Re: Zanussi Washing Machine FJS1397W

The solder joints for the motor relays on these boards burn around the pins ie no wash motor but may spin. You did not say if the jetsystem recirc. pump was running at all during the test.(but that may just be the pump jammed or failed, no particular probs if there is power to it) There will be silence without the motor turning as the board only impulses the timer motor occasinally making the timer seem like it’s dead. PCB board repair should solve it.
    Hope this helps!!!
