ELE3460 Zanussi element looks identical; wattage is slightly lower. Rangemaster element ELE9257 is about the same wattage. As for the mounting holes….. some artistic license with a drill should sort that. 😉
Both under a tenner and regularly used so no real risk there!

Re: Smeg DW DF6 Fault Codes

Fault codes as in the Fault Code Bible on here. Usually it’s the diverter valve or “water separator” in Smeg language. Fault will appear after a few minutes running and there may be water in the base. The retro look machines are pretty much a standard Smeg under all that makeup.

Robert Alexander as admin? They’ve got a stand at the DASA show in November – so it seems to have been removed from the bin and is back on the table…..

Re: Hoover VHC681B drier too hot.

Filter fans and condenser squeaky clean……so the only things limiting the temperature would be the heater stats and the thermistor or PCB surely. There isn’t much else in this excuse for a drier. Unless you can think of anything else, Martin?

    Cheers for the response!!

    Re: Hoover Dynamic 8+

Could be a faulty interlock; but if not look at the pump connections as I have had a couple of 8kg’s with the pump plug burnt. This in turn fries the triac on the module (can be seen easily as the triac looks as if a piece has been chipped off) and the reverse side of the PCB will be blown. PCBs come non – configured…….. 👿

Change the carbons anyway as dust from the old ones can track and cause issues. Blow out the motor with compressed air if you have the gear (don’t breathe the dust!!) I’ve changed half worn carbons in the past and the problem was solved.

Speak to EMW – they can write your board for you for a small fee. If you had bought the PCB from them it would have come pre-programmed plug and play.

Pressure switches can burn internally on these newer Hotpoints so it may be worth trying one first. Then it’s the PCB.

    Looking at the plate:-

The live from the regulator goes to the tag closest to the body of the plate. The opposite side of this terminal box (ie: straight through) is the solid connection to the element wire. The tag at the other end of the element wire is the common neutral.
The other two tags at the top outer edge of the terminal block are the ‘Hob Hot’ light switch. Doesn’t really matter which way these are connected on as it is just a basic switch. The loom shape will guide the fitting of these.

    Re: Lee’s New Thread

I agree with the sentiment that this trade will cease to be in its current form in not too many years time. The government seem to not be all that serious about the waste situation as it generates work therefore taxpayers and more sales = more tax / VAT; the industry seems to want a replacement market only as it is a saturated sector and little innovation is needed or possible to generate custom on the same level as computers or games consoles.

So let’s follow the university model ….. pay loads out to train everyone to be overqualified unemployed!!! Great idea!! OMG…it’s so simple it’s genius!!

I spotted something in Lee8’s mental upchuck though… he said that his ideas (and of course the Illuminati that are gathered round intently listening to him) was not to train up the 45 year old with many years field experience but to get the youngsters and school leavers to train up to a good standard to take this industry forward and carve the brave new appliance world.

Now that is actually sensible; and Lee has a point.

But, as I said in a previous thread a while ago there are no institutes doing these courses. I know..I’ve checked all my local ones…that situation is unlikely to be unique. Graham Dixon and maybe a few exceptions do it, but if it was really required en mass then everyone would want a slice of that cake. Youngsters today are taught to pass exams not utilize the information they are learning. And there is a huge level of post graduate unemployment. I know that too as I have lads of 21, 18 and 15 and all admit that this is the sad situation facing school leavers. Learning on the job with experienced oldies is the key. But that is called an apprenticeship / traineeship and that is time proven to work.

Therefore at a stroke, Lee demolishes his own argument. Training for school leavers, not for the experienced. So does that make the experienced oldie incompetent? And does the school leavers’ appliance qualification gives him that instant short – cut to experience? And seeing there is little demand out there for school leavers with no experience and post graduates brimming with qualifications are not queuing at our doors…then does “experienced” mean paper qualified or time served; or are the two entities inseparable, stand alone or maybe semi – detached????

    Answers on a postcard…. :rolls:

So can the appliance trade offer them a secure future? It could if there was manufacturer cooperation (which there is not); institutes would offer the courses countrywide (which they do not) and if the schools taught youngsters that a trade was a respected and worthwhile way to make a living (which they most certainly do not…university or you are a loser).
So if you can overcome all this then you are truly the new Messiah, no doubt about it. You can spout all you like Lee, but unless you are willing to put your cards on the table and share these revelations you are hearing then you again demolish your argument as you are no more willing to help others in this trade than the people you berate as being ignorant and uninformed. We cannot be informed if you are not prepared to inform us. Sorta resembles a hypocrite, don’t you think?

Please stop the cryptic “Rubiks cube” style answers and tell the trade what you say it should know and restore your credibility. There …it’s over to you……

Yep, I had such a fault with a Siemens interlock just last week. 😉 Door would take 2-3 hours to release. Fitted new lock – sorted.
