ParticipantRe: Qualtex discount scheme for WTA.
Sorry I can’t make it guys; I’ve only been in 20 minutes before typing this and I’m shattered. 🙁
But this you need to know……..
Had a long and productive chat with Phil Hulme today – Qualtex are 100{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} behind the WTA and will assist us in any way they can. (his words, not mine). He thinks it’s an excellent opportunity and is very pleased to have been asked.
He has not only offered to spread the word to all account holders but also offered the services of his legal department to help forward our association if needed. He is mindful that if legislation comes our way then his business as well as the independent engineers (who he described as his “core business”) will suffer. He said Qualtex would back our COP and endorse it. We would also have access to the tech info they have………:DHe is planning to meet me in late March / early April to see what we want in the way of discounts and promotions. After the meeting he is going to instruct his P.A. to deal directly with the WTA as a whole on present and future issues and to ask if we need anything……..:wink:
And…….. I have confirmation that Qualtex will be doing a full presentation at the September meeting with both Phil Hulme and Paul Curran (Manchester branch manager) attending. It will include the new web ordering system and new products coming on line. The WTA scheme is then set for launch!!!!
It’s in the can guys!!!! Please discuss and I want your views………..

ParticipantRe: Haier HWC1460 door handle.
I think it is about 15 months old – quite a good life for a Haier I believe. It’s not been used since the catch failed at 8 months old. As it is in a rest home (yes; don’t laugh!!) I have told them that the catch breaking was the least of their worries. They are going to ditch it. Heh, 1 less in the world…… 😀

But what is most ironic about this is that Espares nicked UKW’s “Repairs @” Code Of Practice a couple of years back. Copied almost verbatum.
Funny that……… 👿

ParticipantRe: Haier HWC1460 door handle.
Well I’ve just pulled myself up off the floor………
😯 Total cost to me = £51.55 including delivery with a 2 – 4 week lead time!!! The spring and axle are £9 + VAT each!!
No disrespect to JTM but that is outrageous!! Almost £100 to fit a catch to a £225 machine? Landfill……….. 😈

If you have checked the element, the ‘stats on the rear of the element assembly and the front duct ‘stat (above the door) then apart from the possibility that a wire has come adrift, then there is a fault with the timer unit.
I would check again – with the wires disconnected from each ‘stat. The element is difficult to check; but a visual inspection will usually reveal a problem.Power off before any inspection starts – Safety First!! :plug:

ParticipantRe: Feb 2010 meeting
I should be able to attend; but it rather depends ATM on my son’s progress. He’d had a sinus infection for a fortnight, but the doctor said he was fine. Last Friday morning he seemed normal at breakfast but went back up to his room and 10 minutes later didn’t respond to us calling him as he was late. We went up to find him spralled across his desk almost unconscious and unable to speak or see. It is a serious complication of acute sinusitis that a bacterial infection can spread to the front of the brain causing it to swell. It can be fatal. He had had a seizure closely followed by several fits and was rushed by ambulance to hospital. He was on life support for 2 days and at one point we nearly lost him…… Thank God he came through OK. He is back at home now but has frequent spells of tiredness, confusion and is very weak. We have to monitor him regularly and the worry coupled with a severe lack of sleep is hitting us badly. He will make a full recovery, but it’ll take time. He’s 17………
Those of you who know me will know why I say, “Why does this always happen to our family in February?” 😕 I really hate February………:evil:
On a lighter note, I will catch up with Qualtex this week as I think it is too short notice for the flyers to make any real impact on attendance at such short notice. Not for the want of trying, I might add….:rolls: September is going to be much better as with any luck the COP will hopefully be close to completion. Phil wants to meet with me soon to discuss the WTA and how Qualtex can help us, so this area needs further discussion.
I’ll will only be able to come for the Friday for sure but I will keep you all posted and I hope to be there.

Resettable cut out on the underside of the tub on the left of the machine often trips. Left side panel off and it’s there behind the heater connections.

lasty wrote:Checking the motor tacho is a good place to start . On the end of the motor , two wires leading up to it – magnet on the end of the armature seems prone to unscrewing itself ……
Good luck .
The tacho won’t affect the machine not starting; it’ll cut the motor and fault as soon as the motor is energised. With the tacho mag unscrewed it would try to go straight into spin speed from rest on the wash cycle. But you are saying the motor doesn’t start at all. 😕
Kneadman, did ‘Lux respond to your e’mail? If the machine is only 14 months old, then they will probably help you. No guarantees, but they are generally sympathetic to such cases. Hopefully you have reassembled the machine exactly as original as a machine that has been ‘messed with’ can be spotted a mile off by the trained eye.
Don’t do any more to the machine as there is little more you can check without spares to substitute.

ParticipantRe: Qualtex discount scheme for WTA.
After almost a year of conversations, broken promises of return phone calls and e’mails, lots of ‘nodding in agreement’ with no follow up of substance……..well, I never thought I’d get to write this BUT………..
I can confirm from my conversation today with Mark Etherington that we have definate backing from Qualtex for the WTA discount scheme.
The bit I was disappointed about was being told today (5pm) that they have to pull out of the meeting as Phil (the boss) can’t be available (despite being told of the date 3 months ago) as the new cleaner they have introduced is so successful that it has diverted the people I was expecting to get at the meeting to concentrate on it. 😕 Mark added that Phil enquired when the next meeting was; but when I said September he said that it was a shame it wasn’t sooner. I have pestered Mark for so long that I am frustrated that I could not announce they were atttending as they hadn’t given me a definate answer. I am hoping this continual delay and rearrangements will not affect the outcome of the meeting, although I would have liked to have seen Qualtex be more proactive instead of leaving it to the last minute.But they have put forward 3 proposals:-
1) To meet the WTA council inside the next 3 months to finalise the agreement;
2) We produce a flyer about the WTA, its aims, ethos and its intentions to help the industry. Also the discount scheme with Qualtex as a bonus to membership.
3) To have WTA themed open days at their branches (although I thought that that was a little self – indulgent ATM as IMO we need to walk before we can run). What do you think about this?
Number 2 seems the one to focus on first as it may boost the numbers at the meeting. If we can get a “prospectus” rustled up over this weekend then I can e’mail it to Mark and he has offered to punt it to every account in the country….. 😀 They will polish the artwork and do the printing or e’mailing as well for free.
With the Qualtex endorsement, the WTA’s profile should be raised – hopefully it’ll get some traders thinking and get the wheels rolling.I am very short of time this weekend as I am helping care for my eldest son who has been seriously ill this week. He was on life support Friday and Saturday last week and although he is home, he is still very weak. But he is getting better by the day, so fingers crossed, I’ll be at the Friday meeting. I will do what I can, but some help would be really appreciated!!
So please, please, any suggestions at all welcome. I want to mention:-
1) Awaiting the OFT backed COP;
2) Spares discount scheme;
3) Fuel discount scheme; (is that still going?)
4) Exclusive work offers;
5) Identity card scheme.Anything I’ve missed or you can add? Or do you think that it’s too short notice to roll this out ATM?

ParticipantRe: Parts only guaranteed for 90 days !!!
I always point out that the warranty is on the parts I have fitted and not the whole machine. Most customers are happy with that.

ParticipantRe: Zanussi FLS1183W (Aquacycle 1050) sometimes spinning
Power off before any inspection starts – Safety First!! :plug:
Checking the brushes is straightforward on these machines; lean it back against a wall and lay underneath. The motor brushes are on the back of the motor and can be removed easily – don’t drop the screws in the motor!
The reason for the no spin is the brushes are worn to limit and when you manually move the drum, the brushes momentarily make contact and spin the motor around; the motor will run but it’ll sound rough. New brushes are readily available – click the Find a Spare banner below this post and Dave will get the correct items for you. 😉HTH,

Next thing to try….Power off first…:plug:
Pull the pressure switch hoses off and try it again. If it does fill then it could be a blocked pressure chamber on the side of the sump hose. (do not let it fill too much; about 5 seconds at most). The small rubber hose goes to it from the pressure switch. 😉
Word of warning – Do not blow into the pressure switch, it is a sensitive electronic device and you will probably damage it as a result.
Failing that, it’s the PCB…….. 😥

It can’t detect the flowmeter – the reed switch is probably goosed. New flowmeter about a tenner from Connect; easy fix. 😉
