All sorted – the strip down reminded me of the good old days with the Bosch V series and AEG stuff of 20 years ago. Heavy steel, undo a million screws and the parts still hold on by a mystery force…….. 😀 Ahhh…….. 8)
Like everything, once you’ve found your way around a machine, the rest is straightforward. Just a 5p in the pump – one embarrassed customer – one relieved Steve! Thanks for the help!!

So there’s no suspension issues with these, then? Is the suspension so tight that it is difficult to push the drum down? It seems very tight to me, almost as if the transit bolts are still in. (but they’re not of course).
Any ideas please!!

The Siemens is £899 at John Lewis; £780 at Boots making it at best £100 + more expensive than the ISE condenser drier and £200 more than the vented version. The Siemens has a 2 years guarantee as standard and you have to apply for the extension to 5 years (some are charging £75 extra). ISE driers have a full 10 years parts and labour warranty and when the warranty is up, the spares are supplied to you with no mark up. Local service is usually less than half the cost of manufacturer call out. If you have seen the prices of Siemens spares you will appreciate the difference. The heat pump is air – con in reverse and aircon is not cheap to fix. They run with little heat as the heat is gleaned from the drier’s surroundings.
The energy calculations in an ideal world are all well and good, but when the repairs come in (and all machines break) you will be able to buy a lot of electricity for the cost of the Siemens spares and labour charges. You’ll get free spares AND labour for 10 years with ISE. Also, it is important to remember that machines were built better 10 years ago. You can’t really compare a machine from 10 years ago with today’s offerings. Siemens appliances are good, but weigh up the differences in the long run.Hope that helps,
Steve.

The early version terminal is clipped shut like the old fashioned blue plastic “Scotchlok” we used to fit our car stereos and CB’s with…….. :rolls:
This version is easy. It has 2 tags (normal size) and the thermistor has enough room around the tags to fit 2 new insulated amp tags (crimp on type) 6.3mm size. The later version has a smaller plug with 2 side by side clasps inside the plug. This is permanent. You then have to buy the loom to get that plug……… 😯
In both cases, relieve the tension on these wires by pulling them out of the zip tie and then retag them. The zip tie holds the wiring loom too tight and failure to do so will mean it will happen again.Power off before any work starts. :plug:
Hope that helps,
Steve.

Have you cleaned the filter lately? If the filter is blocked or the outlet hose is obstructed, then it is very possible that the machine will stop. The computer will wait for the machine to drain and if it is too slow to empty, it will ‘time out’ and flash the led’s on the control panel. Check the filter and pump; test again and report back if the problem still occurs. Don’t get too worried about the age of the machine; the older ones are better built than the new offerings, so if yours can be saved, then that’s a result!
Hope that helps,
Steve.

The VS81 timers are sensitive to earth leakages from the motor and heater; test those first. Is the pressure switch blocked or slow to respond due to a blockage? Is the filter clear? The timer has a 3 minute time out allowance only; so if the drain is restricted, it’ll stop.

ParticipantRe: zanussi fl1084al Timer wont progress
Possibly a blocked pressure system – follow the small hoses down from the round pressure switches to the top of the filter / pump housing. This is the “pressure chamber” and it is probably full of gunge. The unit will need to be removed from the machine to clean it thoroughly. One pressure switch controls the water level and the other is for heater protection. The water level on the main washes is rather high at 1/3 up the door glass: only the rinses should be this high. So I would suspect the pressure system as a first point to check.
Power off before any inspection starts. :plug:
Hope that helps,
Steve.

ParticipantRe: Hoover VHD 842-80 31002589 fault code
Had the same problem with a VHD12 and it was indeed a shorted element. The door interlocks seem to give spurious codes too – I’ve fitted a couple to correct strange fault codes.
