Also overfilling from that lovely water matrix behind the left side panel……sticky level float microswitch, scaled or general crud in the tubes of the matrix, blocked lower transfer hose from sump to matrix……. 😉

ParticipantRe: Hotpoint WMA61S door frame.
Thanks, guys!!!
I questioned the customer on the subject of the door being non – original, but he is sure it has never been changed or even repaired. I have obtained a complete door (good but s/hand) so I’m hoping that will fit.
Even the Indesit genuine parts software shows the wrong part number. :rolls:Steve.

ParticipantRe: Tumble Dryer Vent
The easiest way to do this job is to hire a 4″ diamond tipped core drill from a tool hire centre and cut a perfect hole which the vent tube will just slide through. No beating bricks out and making good afterwards. Well worth the hire cost!! 😉

Thanks, Don!
This is proving to be a tricky one – might have to supply him a complete door. Ridiculous!!!Cheers,

ParticipantRe: Petrol Is Cheaper?
Saddest bit of that whole issue is that the average Joe will see this environmental policy as a vote winner rather than the white elephant is so clearly is.
IIRC, petrol was the devil incarnate 15 years ago; petrol was the No 1 polluter……petrol would give all of us cancer…..so a mass exodus to diesel cars was the result. Now, whether it was just economics or the concern for climate change that made the diesel desirable but the mantra at the time helped to alter the public perception.
Now you have a large percentage of diesel cars on the road you have a captive audience that you can tax to death. We have four children, so we are really stuck whatever we do. ATM, we have a diesel Landrover Discovery with seven seats which returns good MPG on a 2.5L engine. Virtually all the seven seat cars fall in the higher pollution brackets so renewing our vehicle is pointless. The only solace we have is that the outrageous VED tax is less than what we would lose if we sold the car on.
The heavy taxing of these vehicles will just mean that the rich will eventually be the only ones that will be able drive them. Well thought out policies as usual!!
But then if I was Gordon Brown I wouldn’t be called on to justify my 5 seater Range Rover Autobiography with a 4.2 supercharged engine in the centre of London’s low emission zone because…..it’s petrol. 😉Or I could buy a Smart car and make 3 trips……why didn’t I think of that before? :rolls:

ParticipantRe: which integrated dishwasher….?
The ADP8322 is a Whirlpool in a dress. 😉 They are a reasonable machine and probably worth fixing. The worst component used to be the motor but the replacement unit transforms the dishwasher into, well, quite a good machine. There’s a lot worse out there……….
Neff / Bosch / Siemens are the better machines if you go for a new one. They carry a 2 year warranty as well.
Avoid the chinese made machines, (most identified by their ‘triangular’ sump filter). They are available under a myriad of well known brands and are really not good at all (understatement).
I would get the ADP looked at first; it may be a simple fault which could give you a few years more use for little money. Don’t scrap it out of hand….:DHope that helps,
Steve.

Motor brushes or motor connections usually cause ‘dead’ faults on Whirlpool machines. 😉

Drum shaft 35mm – Connect part no:- 5031688311664 (gen) or BRG3605 (pattern). The 30mm drum half doesn’t seem to be available separately. No bad thing though: the premier bearing kit and Rubena seal make a good upgrade from the 30mm ones. Much better kit. 😉

Sounds like the EWM2000 main PCB blown by a faulty door interlock. I have exactly the same fault on an Electrolux as we speak – probably the same machine under the skin.
Have a look at my topic entitled “Electrolux EWD1409i washer drier” about 2 days ago.
Interesting and depressing reading. 😥Steve.

ParticipantRe: Ah, the good old days.
Hotpoint’s horrid ‘teak’ woodgrain finish……yuk!! Those appliances seemed to always be synonymous with the filthy, untidy, mouldy kitchen and they were never matched to anything else. :rolls: But I’ve not seen a marbled finish machine. Must have been fairly rare. Zanussi did a ‘terre de france’ range with yellow, red, blue and brown in the early eighties. The colours all faded from a dark hue at the edge of the appliance into the bright colour in the middle. Looks very dated now.
Mind you, the most ridiculous looking machines were the ones that customers had covered in Fablon. With a badly cut circle for the door……….. :nono:

ParticipantRe: Wf240
Not if you can clean and polish it up…… 😉 The 30mm shaft is available to order only and is costly; so if you can save the old one try and do so. The 35mm shaft is the one with the Rubena seal that replaced the sprung – loaded original that put Hotpoint on Watchdog a few years back.
So far, all the 30mm types I have done have not needed a shaft. If the shaft is badly damaged after clean up, then you can either fit a new 30mm shaft or obtain a complete drum rear half with 35mm bearings and replace the 30mm shaft with a new 35mm one. Discard the 30mm drum rear half and spider. The rest of the drum parts will interchange.
See how it goes with the 30mm one first………:wink:Steve.

ParticipantRe: Wf240
As you pull the drum through the bearing, the metal ‘sleeve’ at the front of the seal pushes back inside the rubber part and grips the shaft. The seal new and the old one compressed look different, but hotpnt is absolutely correct, there are only 2 types. The one you have is the 30mm.
Hope that helps,
Steve.

Have you checked the mains suppressor? They usually fail with a loud bang and some will even continue working while blown. 😉
