As the subject has drifted from ‘silicone for hobs’, to dodgy hob installations… I’d hazard a guess at yes.

Went to a Flavel slimline dishwasher yesterday. (i’m assuming they’re Beko’s).
The anti flood had been activated due to a leak, and lucky for the customer that he was around and switched it off when he smelt burning, as the heater was being switched on during the anti flood pump out.

But by coincidence I was at a CDA/Whirpool dishwasher as well yesterday when the customers Zanussi washer nearly caught fire due to a blocked air trap. I had to intervene and help him sort it out.
    Two in one day 🙁
Very frightening when you think of the potential consequences.

I store all my movies, photos, music and TV on Network Attached Storage (NAS) drives that are basically big pots of hard drives used for data storage.

Then I “stream” that media to other devices on demand as I want.

So music can go into a Sonos system, iTunes, HiFi system. Movies and TV can go to a media streamer or HTPC (Home Theatre PC) and so on in multiple rooms. Or, indeed, to a tablet or phone that is capable.

I’ve been doing this for donkey’s years, probably the best part of a decade or more and in that time I’ve built up a sizeable collection of media as I rarely delete stuff.

It all started when MP3 was invented…

    K.

Me too, absolutely love the way that you can do the same thing fifty different ways. And fifty different people will swear theirs is the best way!

Technology is amazing and baffling at the same time, I just love it!

See, I knew this would happen….

I’m tempted to post about those review sites, but then it just becomes what it’s already in danger of becoming, and that’s something I’ve seen and read a thousand times (no exaggeration) at the very least.

We can both counter each other till the end of time regards operating systems or restrictions, or specs, or ease of use, usp, etc etc.
Bottom line is that there is only one right answer and that is… whatever works for you.

I used to work in IT, and I’ve seen these arguments going back to the spectrum/C64 days. Nothings changed, and in 50 years time people will still be arguing. That is the only real constant.

Apologies to the OP, sometimes we get carried away 😉

Going to disagree with you there Ken. I don’t want to get into an Android/IOS war (I’ll leave that to the geek forums).
But a dearth of apps? Really? There aren’t that many apple apps that aren’t available on android. Those that aren’t have alternatives.
My wife sold her ipad last month in order to buy a tablet that she can do what she wants with, and it won’t wipe her music etc because itunes has had a fit during a sync session.
Being able to drag and drop anything you like is a big plus as well as seamlessly streaming from my nas. The ipad always glitched or stuttered no matter what app was used.
Don’t get me wrong, I know how good the apple stuff is, but I think the simplicity of the Android system is preferable to the overpriced and walled garden that apple is.

Damn…. that was an Android v Apple rant… sorry 😛

Have to agree with the Playbook being amazing value for money as well. With Blackberry 10 coming out soon it will be even better.

The Google Nexus 7 is a nice sized tab and very powerful with a quad core processor.
I use mine for all my work related PDF’s and also for net access when needed (via tethered phone).
At £159 it’s a lot of tablet for very little money.

I’m getting more and more work due to my website nowadays.
I make sure I ask all new customers where they got my number from, and whilst ‘word of mouth’ is very high, ‘off the net’ is being said increasingly more often.

Re: Whats the most annoying thing customers do?

Went to one two days ago, I’m running a bit late so when I get there the guy is twitching his curtains in anticipation of my arrival.
As I pull up in front of his drive and start sorting my various bits out (disconnecting phone/sat nav etc.) he appears at the side gate and watches me get out of the van, walk all the way down his drive, and as I reach him at the gate he says..
” Move your van off the drive mate, I might decide to go out in a bit”
So the T**t watched me walk all the way down his drive and waited till I reached him before he said anything…
Not only that but he had to wait until I’d finished sorting his machine before he could go anywhere anyway!

    Arrrgggghhh… idiots!

    Lol, ‘short and sweet’.

Try that when you ask some old lady what’s wrong with her machine, and she starts off by telling you in detail what she had for breakfast and what happened at the post office before eventually getting around to forgetting completely what your original question was.
During all this you’ve missed two incoming calls because of her rambling… great fun!

Re: COST OF CALL DIVERT TO MOBILE

I’m on virgin and my diverted calls used to cost me anything between £30 to £80 a month. I contacted Virgin and explained. I now pay an extra £10 per month for a ‘talk’ package that gives me 200 minutes of calls to any number from my virgin landline. (even those pesky 08 numbers).

As I only ever use my mobile for outgoing calls all the talk time is used for diverted calls, it’s saved me hundreds over the last six months.

    Re: The 0800 Thread

Went to a job in Nottingham today where an 0800 guy had been to a built in Servis WD. After making the tenants get the machine out, he ran it through a test, declared the heater was faulty and told them to put it back. He not only didn’t remove the top or the back panel, but he failed to notice it had leaked as well.
When this was pointed out he told them that a new heater would sort that out and left.
They never saw him again, nor did they get any joy from 0800 when they asked when the spare was going to turn up. They said no parts had been ordered as the job was marked as ‘completed’ on their system.

When I got there, after checking a few things I noticed it was overfilling due to the double wire connection on the P/Sw having burnt off.
A simple repair that any competent engineer should have spotted within ten minutes.
They’re going to try and get a refund, but somehow I doubt they’ll manage it.

    Re: Seven Days A Week

Indesit tried this with Saturday calls 30 years ago. I think it lasted about two months before they killed it off.
Even with the extra payments to engineers they couldn’t find enough people willing to do it. Coupled with the fact that customers didn’t want to pay the extra premium for Saturday calls, it never surfaced it’s head again till now.

    Re: Washing machine fires

Back in the late eighties while I was working for Indesit, they had a problem on one of their models.
The timer unit sometimes switched the heater on when there was no water in the machine, and as the heater was directly above the pvc sump hose, this had reportedly gone up in flames once or twice.
The solution was to fit a redesigned timer on all of these models regardless of what the reported fault was.
Imagine the scene when I turned up to one house to do a timer swap, there were three fire engines outside damping down what was left of the building.

On the job ticket I wrote ‘Customer no longer requires service due to house being burnt down’.
My manager actually sent that off to H.O. where it caused a bit of a shit storm, even though we did also put that the fire was due to a chip pan being left on. 😉
