ohhh….i have had one where the element itself had blown which left a ‘1’ in the display at the end 😉

Isn’t that a fault code at the end?

Put it on a test cycle and see what comes up….error 1 is the turbidity sensor if memory serves, but this will show at the start of any test cycle anyway…at least until the full cycle is run and the sensor calibrated again whereupon the code 1 will disappear. (learned this the hard way by changing a sensor which martin states is a bit tricky….i’d call it a pig!) 😆

Absolutely not! The air gap at the end of the machine hose will prevent the water syphoning out of the mchine and down the drain. You must ensure the open end of the machine drain hose is always above the highest water level in the drum.

As a rough guide this should be between approx 26ins(650mm) and 32ins(800mm) above the floor.

In this type of installation the drain hose is simply hooked into the top of a vertical section of rigid plastic waste pipe at the bottom of which is a ‘U’ trap tp prevent drain smells from entering the room.

As per my previous post this will prevent any backflow into the machine but blocked drains may cause an overflow at this point.

Re: Weird filling issue and smell!

Don’t forget you also need to ensure there is an airbreak where the appliance hose fits to the plumbing (appears to be lacking in your drawing)….refer to your instructions which will give details of how to arrange this.

This will have two effects…firstly it will prevent the machine from syphoning out during the wash, and secondly it will prevent any backflow from the plumbing into the machine.

Note It does mean that if your waste plumbing system blocks up then it will overflow at the point where the machine hose fits to it so you must ensure that it flows freely…a pain but really this is the correct way (and hence most trouble-free) to plumb the machine in.

    Re: Poll

The call center might be a good one although i suspect we all really know what the answers might be like, we’ve all had dealings with them with one company or another….and i’ve yet to experience a pleasant or quick experience with one. We seem to have such busy lives these days and are used to the speed of modern technology etc, so it’s really infuriating when one has to press numerous buttons for different options and being forced to listen to advertising or piped music.

A more interesting poll for me would be the one Martin suggests about whether the general public finds ‘manufacturers and their agents servicing only’ too restrictive.

    John

Actually, the amount is £2.09 in the example Martin gives but this of course doesn’t take into account the vat element paid by the manufacturer when he builds his widget.

The wider point i suppose is that the average member of the general public doesn’t often realise that the sales ticket on any given item includes a tax on them directly which is returned to the government of the day, but also includes a tax on profit made by companies (on top of corporation tax etc) and that those companies are unpaid tax collectors as a result (all of which takes time and money to account for).

It is a screw-in type, to check the size measure the diameter of the screw end, it’s probably 14mm.

    Re: Diplomat ADP8224 error E7

The E7 error relates to it not draining, this could be a faulty drain pump or more likely a simple blockage.

If you need an engineer the have a look in Repairs@ for someone near you, but if you decide to have a go yourself then remember you must unplug the appliance before doing anything. :zap:

Re: Zanussi not draining and leaking too!

The wash pump and drain pump are all one unit on this machine and it sounds like the seals may have failed which can cause the pump unit to seize.

I have known the impellor in the pump to shed its blades which could also cause this problem although that wouldn’t generate a leak.

Probably best to get an engineer to have a look to confirm as the pump unit is around £80.

    Re: Indesit wg1130T

There could be a number of different reasons why ranging from motor faults to electronic faults.

You will probably need an engineer to sort it for you…you could have a look in Repairs@ to see if there’s someone near you?

    Re: vat

yes…they will have paid vat but that it is way the tax system works. As a vat registered company then any purchases they make will have vat charged on top, and any sales they make subsequently they will charge vat on the sale price.

Assuming they make a profit (which is why businesses are in business!) then the vat they pay on their purchases will be less than the vat they take on their sales.

Every three months the company has to complete a vat return form which declares all the vat incomings and outgoings, and the difference is paid to the government.

This is something the general public usually isn’t aware of…the fact that in a chain of supply the government gets its tax hand in all along the line….and you as the general public (i.e. not vat registered and therefore unable to claim any vat back) end up paying the lot!

The problem is most likely the motor brushes have worn out although it is possible the electronic module that controls its speed has let go.

If you are unsure how to tackle the diagnosis then time to call an engineer 😉

You could try Repairs@ to see if there’s an engineer near you?

    Re: Bosch Dishwasher not draining

Have you tried running the drain pump with its cover off for a few seconds then re-assembling?

If the pump is working (you can replace the rubber flap valve again) then it points to a blockage elsewhere.

First port of call would be the drain hose connection under the sink 😉

    Re: general electric dryer belt

Have a close look at the belt…if it’s not too worn you might be able to read all the numbers on it. These will either be the size and type, or of you’re lucky it might be the part number….either will help.
