You will need to get the oven out to get to the motor….and you will then see which bolts mount it on 😉

ParticipantRe: Recommend a Movie
Having been dragged to see it by my kids and since bought the dvd which has been played to death, i would have to add Shrek!…best laugh in a long while with plenty of double-entendres for the adults 😉

Not sure what you mean about reading to ground – 1.6 mega-ohms means that it’s basically open circuit (to ground)
No it doesn’t….it means the resistance reading to ground has dropped from infinity right down to 1.6 megs! (this probably drops even lower when the element heats up) and is certainly low enough for the trip to respond.
New element time.

ParticipantRe: whirlpool washing machine drum bearings
It helps if you hold the bearing spider with one hand pulling at it, the other should be ‘persuading’ the drum shaft to co-operate with vigorous use of a club hammer 😉 (I would recommend the use of protective gloves, or sixteenth century gauntlet if you think you might hit your hand )
Like Penguin says, insert a bolt into the end of the shaft first because if you burr over the end it never will go through the old bearings and then you’re in deep trouble…..

Is this symptomatic of bearing renewal being required?
Thanks in advance
Possibly…first of all check the filter unit for 5p pieces (common source of noise) then check the drum for play. With the door open see if the inner drum will lift up and down within the outer drum…if there is any appreciable play then you can confirm bearing failure by turning the drum by hand…you will either feel the rough bearings or will hear them grinding.

Seamy wrote:Would plastic cable ties not be in danger of failure with the residual heat from the element?
I’ve fitted many over the years (too many to remember) and never had this problem. As I said before i’ve only had one fail to my knowledge and that was due to one tie itself being faulty…and that’s a better and more reliable success rate than i’ve had with jubilee clips 😉

There is always the possibility that the pcb just happened to fail while you were there?….just a thought

ParticipantRe: MICROWAVE COOKER PAINT
There is no specialist paint for this, just pop down to your local motor factor and pick up some cellulose car touch-up paint. You should be able to get a reasonable colour match 😉
Don’t forget to clean up the metal first with some fine emery, check the rollers on the turntable carriage for rough spots, and then put a good two or three coats of paint on.

ParticipantRe: Whirlpool awm219 Drain Problem
Looks like you’ve got a blockage somewhere, the cure is a strip down to check the pump is clear and the drain hose unblocked.
Power off if you’re having a go yourself :zap:

ParticipantRe: Whirlpool DWF416W Problem
First of all, a temperature sensor fault can prevent the test cycle operating so that’s worth a look….other than that check the usual suspects like the flow meter/connections.
If they don’t sort it then it’s prolly the pcb itself.
Click the link below if you’re not competent to have a go yourself, but if you do then don’t forget to unplug before doing anything :zap:

One can only assume that when the room was just a garage the machine was also drying some of the outside (humid) air?

Maybe there isn’t as much water in the damp laundry to start with?….Have you been fixing the washing machine? 😆
