Re: Quick one about a Mistral

With no disrespect to Gerard, this is a classic example of a customer thinking that the only option is to replace an appliance. He now finds himself spending £150+ for a new fridge-freezer, discarding a repairable unit which would have cost a few pounds to sort and having the problem of disposing of the old and waiting in for the new. The Mistral is not an example of Hotpoloni crap but a solidly build Hotpoint from Peterborough in the UK, which when you know how they work, are not difficult to fix. This time the sheds won but repairs@ would have been a much better option both for Gerard and the environment.

Tony – Fairly common for the water cooler to freeze up due to problems in the refrigerator evaporator area.

Expert Cat may be able to confirm this but during my training course last week it came up that Samsung had been having problems with the thermal fuse. Original is wrapped up with a piece of foam sheet, engineers were fitting the replacement without wrapping this foam around causing premature failure of fuse. The original fuse was set at 73C but I note that the ones supplied to us this week are at 77C.

Yep – I had the same conversation with Bernie some weeks ago, he referred me back to Tony who did not respond. I wonder why they have become so secretive all of a sudden?

Have a look at Samsung, they now do a range of american style side by side fridge freezers. Plus the majority of their service work is carried out by independent service companies – always a bonus

Re: Help need a fridgefreezer in dark green!!!!

Might sound abit obvious but why not get the original one repaired. Dont know where you are but repairs@ should throw up a local company and as you aren’t having luck with a green one would surely be a cheaper option than new.

    Re: Gorenje

Tim – I think you could take the following on board as you further consider your buying options. Most of us independents will support the great idea of the ISE machine but as you stated earlier you are in the market for a ‘built in appliance’ Unfortunately, at this time ISE are only offering free standing.
Moving on then, perhaps what you might consider, is how long the manufacturer is prepared to shoulder the cost of a repair (at their expense) on their product. If you (as a manufacturer) have faith in the quality of the product, then you can take the risk of an extended manufacturers warranty and factor it into the price. If on the other hand you have concerns about the products longevity, you get the customer (at their expense) to take out a service contract with an insurer. The advantage to the former, is that the manufacturer controls the companies that repair the product and if you have a problem you can beat the manufacturer over the head. With the latter you get who the insurance company sends (no disrespect here guys – I know all UKW members are ace)
Certainly, with both the ISE & Gorenje products, before we were allowed to sell the range we had to attend a training course.

What I would say at this point is that irrespective of what product you finally decide on, buy it from an Independent. You may have to pay a few quid more but in the long run they will look after you and your product far better than the High St box shifters. Enjoy choosing your appliance and keep watching this website.

There is a thermal cut out on top of the dryer heater that stops it overheating. If you are not an engineer, go to repairs @ and find your local independent.
