Plenty of PAT testers out there now. Either the pass or fail type or the more professional ones that give a reading for you to interpret and pass or fail accordingly. If you are doing our sort of stuff, ie fully earthed, 3 core cable stuff, then the seperate earth lead is not used. The Seward ones at least do come with one though.
Seaward have a new range out http://www.seaward.co.uk/
Not heard of this “commotion” one though.

have done a few door locks on those, usualy burns contacts on the plug.

ModeratorRe: Rinse hold?
Surely though selecting quick wash would cancel any rinse hold given that a wash that doesnt end (without user intervention) can never be described as “quick”
As you have this “test machine” Martin, how about “testing” every cycle and combination of settings and plotting the results?eastlmark

There are also 2 screws slap bang in the centre of the hob where the 2 halves of the hob join.

ModeratorRe: F8 or FA Error on Whirlpool ADP6940
FA is a optical sensor failure or incorrect reading while F8 is water level related. Assuming the filters are clean there is not much else you can do. Guess you have a warranty so its time to call for service.

got me thinking about the old Candy door interlock that was on the switch bank. That used to be in SERIES with the spin coils of the motor and when it burned out, which was often, it gave a no spin fault that used to baffle engineers not used to such things.

You are correct Bob. and it is in parrallel with the oven fan motor rather than the element 😳

ModeratorRe: Smeg DWF664
check the plug on the base switch and the switch itself, (simple change over contacts) its a long shot but have had one burnt out once. Other than that another pcb I guess.

ModeratorRe: 8996619267611 Cut Out or Cut In?
Dave is correct, it wires in series with the fan element, the drawn current heats a little bi metal which switches on the cooling fan and keeps it on until this bi metal slowley cools. A cheap solution to what many use timing pcb’s for. Unfortunatly it has proved not too reliable.
The whole situation is not helped by Electrolux parts diagrams either not showing it or describing it rather confusingly as a cut out kit.eastlmark
ModeratorRe: The cheek !
ok. I was imagining girl tripping over open oven door scenario sort of thing and wondering why the culprits sex had to come into it.

So you want each of us to chose a Brand, write a brief article on only that brand including the points you have listed, on a common template?
if thats the case, I want Philco and Asko as I am pretty well up on them, history wise at least. Not sure anyone will be up for Zerowatt though!
