ModeratorRe: 1606 Not heating
have had these heating for just a very short time as limescale under the heater keeps water off the area above the ntc so it reads that it is up to temp in an instant and therefore cuts the power to the element. If you meters not hooked up or just not looking at it you may miss it. Best test is to pull the ntc from its slot above the motor and test the machine on a wash again with it dangling, don’t forget to re fit it though.

I think they do that anyway…. bit worrying at first but see a lot of that sort of thing these days.

ModeratorRe: Kenwood KID60B12 heater change
well, no takers on this on but gave it a go anyway and not as bad a job as I thought, base comes off this machine (which I did not think was the case hence my question) so its rather like the previous Bosch with he heater box to change (I mean the one with the removable thin metal base panel) Only thing is, despite the exorbitant price of the new heater, it does not come with the “o” rings so I had to use the old and it took 3 attempts and a added thin o ring under the originals to stop it from leaking.

Not sure if I should steer well clear or think of how many calls I will get before they bin them and go back to the commercial machines they used to have. 🙁

Peveral owned maybe? I have several and in the beginning they all had Asko appliances that ran reliably (with the odd bit of maintenance and a few faults) for 15 years…… now they all have Hotpoints, Chinese Zanussi’s etc and lots of complaining residents. Probably fit a belt and rear bearings to the Hotpoint dryers 5 times a year, the washers are generally replaced by similar crap at 18 months at best.
This is despite my hard sell to the managers on ISE machines but the budget they have to spend on new has been cut to nothing while the maintenance budget appears to have no limit.eastlmark
ModeratorRe: bosch d/w sms53e12gb/01 (about 4 years old)
Why scrap? have you seen how cheap the pump is for those? (£62 from qualtex) and it includes the heater, formerly £90 odd in itself on previous Bosch dishwashers. Easy change too once you get the hang of it.

ModeratorRe: Getting your T&C’s through to customers
Maybe I gave the impression ours are too long, not the case, as Martin pointed out it is just the bare minimum really, ideally there should be a lot more;
To Summarise then:
You have booked a service call for day/date between start time/end time. Please note that this is an arrival time and we will not know how long the job will take to complete.
Our service charge will be £****/£**** including vat which will cover the labour charge to complete your job but parts will need to be paid for in addition.
If you decide not to go ahead with the repair then we will instead charge £**** which is our minimum charge.
We accept cash, cheques and cards but do need to be paid at the time of our visit.
If you need to cancel your appointment, please allow at least 12 hours notice, we may charge our minimum rate if this is not the case.
(cookers only)
Please do not use any part of your cooker at least 3 hours before our earliest quoted arrival time.We also have modified versions for warranty and re call jobs.
The fact is that folks will swear blind we never even read that so I get to the house find a nanny looking after the kids with no payment left out and cooking on the top oven of the cooker we are supposed to be repairing!eastlmark
ModeratorRe: Rangemaster Professional + 90
those are usually part of the rings so you need to identify which ring has the faulty thing. You can look up parts for these here: http://rangemaster.partsarena.eu/

ModeratorRe: Lamona Dishwasher HJA8631
don’t know for sure but a few common issues:
1 door loom wires breaking
2 Burnt out microswitch on the float in the base+ reset procedure is quite long winded, need to get the start button on solid first and then hold it down till it flashes, shut door and let it re set.

ModeratorRe: Taking the wee wee customers
A more professional attitude when they book the call, make it clear your charges and what it will cost them and run through your payment methods while you are at it… I bet arm around you is not one of them.
Then look how you get treated when you need something doing or buying…. ever get special treatment or not having to pay for things? Thought so, bare that in mind when asking for payment it will soon harden you up.eastlmark
ModeratorRe: 10 days left!
completely off topic but there is a similar Euro directive controlling the emissions and power of new railway locomotives built after 2014 which has led to a) a whole heap of last minute orders for current locomotives shortly to be outlawed (to make- not use) and b) all those old preserved or stored smokey diesel engines being hurriedly re instated to be used hauling freight up and down the country soon. Great for us train enthusiasts but not exactly what was intended by the EU.

ModeratorRe: How long does it take to raise a credit note
don’t normally have such long term problems but credit notes always arrive just at the start of a month meaning you have missed the chance to deduct payment in the current month so end up paying for the stuff you didn’t order/ faulty/ missing whatever.

ModeratorRe: debt collecting
DCA? B2C? WTF I got paid!
one was along the lines of:
Mr ****, We have been instructed by Anglia Electrics to collect an unpaid sum of £90.60 + new additional late payment charges. CCJ forms are now prepared and will be submitted on September 1st.
Nothing untrue in there other than it was from me rather than a 3rd party debt collector. CCJ forms were prepared online and I always follow through on them if only out of principle, Took a Viscount to CCJ on one occasion.
The other text was much the same but with the invite to call round at a convenient time.eastlmark
ModeratorRe: 1607w rubber lip thing around door
Jamie Olivers came off weekly but since I taped it on with gaffer tape on the inside its been fine. Only ever changed one because it got mangled up between the tub and front plate when a rear spring snapped.

ModeratorRe: beko wm5120w pausing itself
well…. its working (till the phone call in the morning maybe). fitted the pressure switch with no difference, fitted the ntc no difference, slaved on another drain pump…no difference. In desperation I changed the door interlock and hey presto it worked! (not that there was any kind of door locking issue) But, I then re fitted the old lock to make sure and it worked as well so I am in the realms of god knows. Maybe a bad connection on the interlock (no Indesit style burn outs showing though). Whatever, an expensive time and parts waste for me and another pcb on the pile of “maybe I will use that in the future” other pcbs gathering dust on the shelves. At least I now have an ISE 5 v1 pressure switch on the shelf if you need another one Jim.
