Re: Switch ratings. e.g. 16A(4) /250V ac. What is the 4 for?

Brains wrote:the (4) would normally indicate the max-resistive load you can load the switch.

For example, 16= 16A for resistive loads
4=4A for non-resistive loads such as motors, transformers and the like.

The reduced rating is normally to allow for the extra stress due to contact-arcing caused by the non-resistive load

a motor not a resistive load then?

    Jim.

your screen shot Jim is showing a different comercial code the one you quoted, it refers to a different model which obviously does not have that valve on it.

    Re: Refrigeration gear?

Disagree about the lockrings…… never ever had one fail or leak and fitted, literaly 1000’s. Way quicker than Brazing and less equipment to lug around. (you do need good eyesight though the read the sizes!) Qualtex currently cheapest supplier. The only rip off is the driers with tails on and if anyone can point me the way of a cheaper alternative…..
TrySRW for equipment although you will find most refirgeration suppliers are geared up for commercial work and have little domestic stuff.
R600A is now the most common refrigerent for domestic stuff and is basicly a hydrocarbon like Butane. Yes it is flamable under certain circumstances so you need to know what you are doing, but its a great gas to work with as you do not need to recover the old stuff and you are dealing with much smaller quantities then the older systems used.

    Re: Licenses for refrigeration repair?

you do not need a licence, if you are working on refrigeration using R134A then you need an F gas certificate (use the search feature), as for R12 there is very little about thats worth getting involved in repairing. There are refrigeration handling courses such as C&G refrigerant handling which are worthwhile but not compulsory. When R600A first came in suppliers would not sell you stuff with a C&G but now it is available anywhere.
You do need to know what you are doing though as there are fines and imprisonment for venting off HCFC and CFC gases.

Who mentioned this license to you?
