ParticipantRe: Proline PLC200SL fridge not cooling, freezer ok?
As you look at the back wall in the fridge you should see a fine covering of frost, covering approx two thirds of it from top to bottom.
This frost should give way to water droplets as the automatic defrost of the fridge kicks in – several times a day.ELDAR59
ParticipantRe: ipad on the road
I’ve just been in the local EE shop and they’ve got a cracking deal on until close of play on Monday.
SIM cards with 5gb of data for 10.99 a month.
I’m going back in on Monday to get myself a couple.ELDAR59
ParticipantRe: Proline PLC200SL fridge not cooling, freezer ok?
Hello again, the length of the defrost period has had no bearing whatsoever on the fault, although possibly the fact that you did a defrost has.
You’d be amazed at how many faults show themselves after some sort of power interruption and in this case, it came with you turning off the power for the defrost.
It’s just really unfortunate.
Was the ice on the back wall of the fridge localised or just in the top corner, before the fault?ELDAR59
ParticipantRe: Proline PLC200SL fridge not cooling, freezer ok?
hello, I think you’re over complicating things a little here.
this is a very simple system and it does look for all the world like you have a system fault, i.e. short of refrigerant or compressor fault.
there’s no way to strip the appliance down to further investigate.
an engineer would be able to quickly diagnose your problem properly.
in short, does the compressor run? if so, then your thermostat is ok.
that leaves you with one or two scenarios, lack of refrigerant or compressor fault.
that’s all there is to it really.
a system fault, whilst not being rocket science, does require specialist equipment and also a little specialist knowledge, which puts the job out of the capability of the even the most enthusiastic amateur.ELDAR59

you say you’ve checked the door switch, but is the actuator meeting the switch mechanism and operating the micro switch?

ParticipantRe: AEG Santo Defrost heater/evaporator question
It’s not uncommon to have to buy the complete evaporator just to get the heater, so this is probably correct. You’ll be able to unclip the heater from the evaporator, unclip the one already on your appliance and then refit the new one.
In answer to your second question, how do you know the defrost heater has failed? Have you checked it with a meter?ELDAR59

Hello, I’m not familiar with this model, but it sounds just like a conventional fridge freezer and configured in the way most of them are nowadays.
If this is the case, then think of the evaporators in the two compartments as one big length of pipe work.
This pipe work runs from the compressor through the condenser and then into the freezer, before going up into the fridge and retuning to the compressor. It’s one big loop.
The evaporator in the fridge doesn’t take the same form as the one in the freezer, but is more likely what we term a ‘wet wall evaporator’.
That is to say that behind the plastic back wall of the fridge is a metal evaporator plate that will normally freeze over and defrost itself fairly regularly.
The fridge compartment conducts its cold from the back wall.
It does sound like ken was correct in his assumption of a system fault, although without standing in front of the appliance, we can only do just that, assume.ELDAR59
ParticipantRe: Fridge frezeer not chilling
Hello, this appliance doesn’t have a defrost timer, because its not a frost free model. It’s automatic defrost in the fridge and you defrost the freezer manually.
No need for a manual really, as this is a vey simple appliance.
There’s just a thermostat in the fridge compartment and a compressor.
If you can hear the compressor running, then you have a system fault. If the compressor isn’t running, check the thermostat.ELDAR59
ParticipantRe: American Fridge freezer advice
Well the liebherr will be 3k plus for a side by side. The Miele fridge is a liebherr with a Miele badge.
Good luck with your search.ELDAR59
ParticipantRe: Maytag GC2225PEKW
hi steve, what do you want it to do?
if you take off the plinth and look underneath the appliance, on the right hand side, you should see service instructions taped to the underside in a plastic bag.
these should help you.ELDAR59
ParticipantRe: Smeg
I wouldn’t have thought so. If the fridge door seal was an issue then the fridge would be working harder to counter this.
If the fridge was working harder, you’d have a lot of frost.
Also, if the door seal wasn’t good enough, you’d have condensation in the fridge.ELDAR59
ParticipantRe: Fridge still defrosting 🙁
Not really!
It’s a matter of diagnosing if the problem lies with the system, or the regulation of it. If, when the appliance does work, it works ok, then your system is probably fine and its the regulation (in this case pcb’s) that is to blame.ELDAR59
ParticipantRe: Fridge still defrosting 🙁
At the back of the fridge at the top. I’m not saying that’s definitely the fault, but if the system is good and it’s not regulating properly and you’ve changed the stat, then it’s a good bet.

ParticipantRe: Fridge still defrosting 🙁
so you replaced the little potentiometer inside the fridge?
a little variable resistor pcb?
if you’re confident that the system is ok, then i’d also replace the pcb at the back of the unit at the top. -
