unfortunatly there is no simple answer. your machine has an earth fault. as an engineer i would use a meter to check for earth faults on various components
most likely is1 leak (water spaying or leaking on electrics )
2 heater
3 motor
4 other (covers other components, broken wiring etc)hope it helps. i would look for a leak first

even on timed drying i would still not assume the sensor is not active
lift off the lid and place a damp bit of kitchen roll or a small damp cloth across the brush gear. works a treat and saves looking for a pile of wet clothes

if its the main board then i think they come with no software so unless you have the right gear you cant fit it (unconfigured)

ring up QER most of the thing they repair they make a test rig. so they can test your board first and charge you a test fee if its ok.
you wont know till you ask but from what you say i think i know which component has failed but i would have to see the board to be certain

ModeratorRe: Hotpoint Aquarius WML 940 Door lock
they are not screws
you push the plastic dots in while holding the lock. it slides to the left a bit then the right hand side is able to slip out

you are saying that no matter where you put the programmer knob it does the same thing
if so may be the programmer switch connect lists it as 5045175606607
litle red switch with a blue stem
