Have patience, someone will no doubt answer in due course. No need for double post. 😉

To keep things tidy I have removed the duplicate from spares thread.

    Example of Tact:

Six Irishmen were playing poker in O’Leary’s apartment when Paddy Murphy loses $500 on a single hand, clutches his chest and drops dead at the table.
Showing respect for their fallen brother, the other five continue playing poker standing up.

Michael O’Conner looks around the table and asks, “Oh, me boys, someone’s got to tell Paddy’s wife. Who will it be?”

They draw straws to decide the task.

Paul Gallagher picks the short one.
They all tell him to be discreet, be gentle, and don’t make a bad situation any worse.

“Discreet???” questions Gallagher. “I’m the most discreet Irishmen you’ll ever meet. Discretion is me middle name. Leave it to me.”

Gallagher goes over to Murphy’s house and knocks on the door.
Mrs. Murphy answers and asks what he wants.
Gallagher declares: “Your husband just lost $500 and is afraid to come home.”

“Tell him to drop dead!”, says Murphy’s wife.

“I’ll go tell him,” says Gallagher.

Very easy to check without even removing the top or back panels, at the top, back, dead centre of the machine is a small black plastic thimble shaped cover, prise that off, switch on dryer, you should get a small jet of water coming out of the nozzle. If there is no water then follow post#2 🙂

Strange one, might be worth changing the motor to module harness, part number 1603396, it is only a few pounds and should eliminate any possible bad contacts. I always carry one.
Do you get any of the option lights flashing when it malfunctions?

Not really worth the risk and considerable aggravation these bearings changes can cause, if you are still under the five year parts guarantee I strongly advise you to use it. 🙂

Re: Replacing the bearings on a Hotpoint

Worth pointing out that your machine is almost certainly under five years old, as such it is covered by Hotpoint’s five year parts warranty. They will change everything needed, for just under £90.00. A bearing change on this machine, as clivejameson has already said is not that simple, and if you run into complications, you cannot then go back to Hotpoint under your parts guarantee.

There are other things that can cause noise, motor, pump, suspension, loose concrete balance weights. Is the drum noisy when you turn it by hand?

Thanks for that very informative post Nigel. I do recall that when Hotpoint introduced their very first ceramic hob cooker 25 years ago or more, they actually included a full set of special ultra strong, flat based pans with the cooker.

The drum support in the picture above is from a Hotpoint WMA range, your WM model has a smaller drum support and is even more susceptible to damage caused by constant low temperatures, incorrect dosage and failure to use a good quality detergent.

Re: Hotpoint WD860 Door Glass Scratched

To be honest, the old Hotpoint 1850 range used to cut right through the plastic door ‘glass’ fairly often, and they only spun at 1000 max. More to do with design of door, drum and suspension.

Easy way to be sure is to NOT put any fabric conditioner in the compartment. Instead put a dry broken biscuit or similar in that compartment. Set it to “Rinse & Spin” then see what’s happened to the biscuit??

    More tea vicar?

If the biscuit was dry would you tell the customer that her machine was ‘snackered’ 😆

Re: Hotpoint WD860 Door Glass Scratched

It is something that we have seen on around 75{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} of Hotpoint machines over the last thirty years, and to a greater or lesser degree on all others depending on the make and model. My own 1600 spin WMA62 has many scratches on the door. My wife just bangs the machine on and lets it get on with it, however when I do the washing I always reduce the spin speed down to around 1100 rpm or even lower. The amount of water you will extract at 1600 rpm as opposed to 1100 rpm is miniscule, the downside of the very fast spin is severe wear and tear, excessive noise, scratched doors etc.
It does not have any effect on the machine and is purely a cosmetic problem.

PS. I cannot tell the wife how to use the machine for fear of the, ‘deaf & dumb breakfast’ syndrome. 😆
