ParticipantRe: 0800 Repair
Watched this thread with intrest over the last few weeks, good luck to all you franchisees in your venture, but be warned I last worked for JTM a few years ago and like Lee a bad taste was left after I parted company with them, strange that Quinto phoned me last week and emailed pleading for our services again at the same rates from nearly 4 years ago 😯
Obviously the 0800 franchise hasn’t hit the South West yet, or are they hedging their bets ❓
They can give work and also stop it as soon as they want to, if they have other options available 😉

ParticipantRe: CRB checks
Its a bit of standard policy now with most companies, letting agents, councils etc, its not that difficult to do but its another form to fill in and send off and it all takes time, the latest I’ve had is H&S accreditation otherwise we cant work at the Universties anymore, even though I have less than 5 employees I still have to get certified by the CHAS scheme, great name for it though lol :rolls:
Agree with Lee on this one for a change 😉

ParticipantRe: Repair quote of the month.
Did a Falcon today, both fan motors and one gas tap replaced, total about £180 and I was there about an hour, I must put up my labour charge of £80 plus vat for a range cooker if they get away with that !! 😯
Rangemaster/Falcon parts are are not very expensive considering the cot of the appliance, fan motor from Connect is about £12 plus vat !! :rolls:

ParticipantRe: FLOOR DISCLAIMER
Had this exact problem yesterday, not flooring but worktop problem, very expensive kitchen with a De Dietrich Induction Hob fitted extemely tight into worktop also siliconed/grip filled in by kitchen fitter (well builder who thinks he can fit kitchens !!) can’t remove hob as it’s solid, after nearly 30 years of working on built in appliances I know when to walk away.
Customer was understanding as she could see that serious damage could be caused to both hob and worktop, I walked away after advising her to get a proper kitchen fitter out not the builder to try and get it out then I would come back and repair it, needless to say she called said builder to complain about the way he fitted and he said ‘engineers know naff all about kitchens I’ll get it out’.
The customer phones me in the evening in tears as he’s broken the glass on the hob and knackered her worktop levering it out, she is now going to claim on his PL insurance, what a numpty 😯

ParticipantRe: Diplomat / Howden HJA2170 extractor stopped working
Yes if it is the plug for the extractor, double check extractor is fully disconnected before you start taking it apart, plus you will need a soldering iron for the connections on the motor 😯

ParticipantRe: Diplomat ADP4810 Fan Oven not working
The oven unit will have to be removed from the housing to replace the fan element, you cannot do it from inside the oven cavity, unless you are very confident of being able to do this I would advise you get a professional Engineer to do it for you 🙂

ParticipantRe: Diplomat / Howden HJA2170 extractor stopped working
More than likely the motor is faulty, part number 0010900258 available from AW Services, switch off or pull the plug first, the only real way to check is to test componants with a test meter, another appliance made in China I’m afraid 🙁

ParticipantRe: Fisher & Paykel versus the rest.
Hi Graeme,
I am a direct service and sales agent for F&P and I cannot give them enough praise, not just because of that but they are a genuinely good company to deal with from both mine and my customers point of view.
Their service department is going through major changes at the moment, I have just come back from new training at their head office, in fact one of their top service technicians was over in N.Ireland last week training an agent and sorting out a couple of jobs over there, their dedication to quality service in the UK and Eire is very genuine.
Spare parts are very reasonably priced, considering the technical nature of the refrigeration and dishwashing products, I really do like the refrigeration products.
The range cooker is made in Italy and is very good value for money, opinions will differ on this site but I like their produsts from both a service and sales point of view.
It’s a shame you live in N.Ireland otherwise I would have definately supplied you with F&P products, let me know by PM if you need any more info. 😀
