Isn’t the start switch part of the pcb? Maybe the button is sticking? So needs cleaning and lubricating.

What do you mean by, “slight earth faults”? Below 1 megohm? If a dryer heater on Zan/AEG/Lux goes below 40 Megohm it can prevent machine starting. 😯 Disconnect it safely and try again, machine will work with it out of circuit. Maybe the machines have been lying unused for a long period while the flats were being sold/rented. If that doesn’t work, try motor disconnection. Machine should still start OK.
If you’ve got a whole block of flats with these in you might be on to a good thing.

That’s a lot of money to fork out. If it doesn’t cure the problem you won’t be able to send it back. Unless one of the board reconditioners (http://www.emwelec.co.uk or http://www.qer.biz) can help then I’d pass the customer on to Bosch. (I’m assuming you’re self employed.) Chances of ever needing a board for one of those again are slim. Bosch will probably quote him an arm and a leg so the machine will end up as scrap but at least you’ll keep your money and some of your sanity.

ParticipantRe: oven temperature tester?
Makes you wonder if the oven manufacturers were using dodgy equipment when they tested that oven. :rolls: “But it seems a bit hot” “No, no, this fantastical non-contact infra red thingy says it’s OK”

Shouldn’t this be added to “test procedures” sticky?

I haven’t got a definite answer but you must try a new door lock (if not yet done) and if that doesn’t fix it, pull out the elctronics and examine closely. And make sure all connectors are fixed on well. I think this is a common problem on AEG/Zan so I’m mystified why I’m first to answer.

Thanks, Chris. I’ll give that a go.

Is it the belt tensioning pulley? I think you’re best going in from front. Pull out lower section of front – held in by (rusted in place?) springy clips. Get the fan chamber front off and reach a hand round behind to the other end of the motor (power off 😆 ) Don’t ask me if there’s a uf there, I can’t remember. No, I think it works on a centrifugal switch, but take care. There you’ll find the motor pulley has a hexagonal end so you can get a spanner over it to hold it still (about 21mm IIRC) while you unscrew the plastic fan in the direction indicated by the arrow embossed in it’s edge. Once that’s done it should all be obvious.

PS, Don’t forget to ask the question, “What caused this burn out?” before you even start to repair the module!

ParticipantRe: Samsung P1453 washing machine
Looking at pic of motor on Connect, I’d say take along a set of typical Hoover/Beko brushes, plus both types of Ceset brushes as used in Zan & Whp, and the ones with red holders sold individually not as pairs for Indesit and you’ll be unlucky if that doesn’t cover it with plenty of room to spare. And remember you can take the brass bits out of the plastic holders and use them in the original holders if necessary.

Size, shape, colour, number of legs/tabs? But anyway TBH fixing a Bosch module is going to be a tough one to start with. If you can see those three are dead, there could well be others got brought down which you can’t see. Still, it’s the way to learn if you have the time.

Possible fractured spider, you can’t always detect them. Spin with a heavy full load in would show it up probably.

Might just need a dab of solder on a relay terminal. See Simple PCB repair tips sticky at head of forum.
