Just a thought. Does this one have the little plastic cover (600949) over the impellor which anyone (e.g. office worker) can remove with one t20 torx screw? And then they forgot to put it back or didn’t do it properly?

If you’re only buying one to use on the odd occasion, why worry about surfaces? You can always write on a bit of the surface with a dryboard marker and wipe off after. That way you can get away with a cheapo one off e-bay. 😉

Re: re whirlpool american top loader 3RLSQ8000JQ

There are thermal fuses in these machines, two in the one I’m working on currently. The plethora of posts mentioning the 6.3A slow blow prompted me to get a pack of 10 and take them with me but there was no such fuse in this 3RLSQ8000.
Incidentally, installing a 10A in place of a blown 6.3A? 8O. Sounds rather an unsafe practice to me.

Re: re whirlpool american top loader 3RLSQ8000JQ

If it’s a thermal fuse it has probably got too hot at some point. This may be due to an iffy cycling stat failing to open when it should or all the crud and muck that’s bunging up the airflow at some point, or people stopping the machine during the programme.

Re: Tumble dryer fan belt needed

Is it a round section belt?
If you type “Zanussi fan belt” into Connect’s search box, it comes up with two round belts and one small polyvee; although they’re for later models. I’ve got a TC470 one somewhere in my museum vaults.

Ah, here’s Igor with it now.
    Hmm. (measuring).
It’s about 68cm long. And about 5mm diameter.

That post of mine was a bit of an error, I hadn’t realised the name Debonaire had continued until so recently. My mum had one about 45 years ago. Me old man repaired it a few times with solid rivets and sheet aluminium (he was an aircraft fitter) when it went rusty. He kept it in the shed under a heap of other junk until he died, ’cause “the motor was still OK.”
I got the impression from the old chap on the ‘phone that he imagined I had a garage full of ancient spin dryers, and a fat roll of purple notes in me pocket.
There was a time about a decade ago when I did pick the odd one up for a fiver and flog it for £35. But it’s a bit of a niche market.

Behind the knob is a 24P (positions?) programme selector. Seems to be obsolete. Seems there’s little to lose by trying to pull it apart and fiddle with it 😯 .
    Mike.
PS: Did you take the old lock apart to see if it had shorted internally? If it had, I’d follow the wires back to the board and look very closely for a triac with a hole in it, for example, or smoke signs on the plastic module cover.
