+1
And many customers are educated enough to work that out for themselves. (That’s why your business doesn’t fall off a cliff when you raise your call out charge; as long as it’s reasonable.) Therefore, by my reckoning, free call outs = preying on the educationally disadvantaged by having some of them subsidise others.
Mind you there are a few well-intentioned beginners who start up that way which is fair enough if they’re not aiming to make a profit in their first year or so.

ParticipantRe: How to measure a belt?
I’ve sometimes found those Aristons with the tiny drum pulley will throw their belts for, “no good reason.” I’ve never had a callback after re-fitting old belt. My guess is the reason is often an unbalanced load.
Or it could be that they don’t call me back because they come to their senses and go out and get a Bosch ❓ .
I thought a conductive belt is like the anti-static thing trailing off a car. Just got some metal mixed in with the rubber to make it semi-conductive?

I know what you mean but I’m on PAYG. Anyway, “free” is almost never what it seems 😉 .

If no luck with lock, check for low insulation / damp. Try with motor unplugged.

Thanks Walnut, looks good, I’ll give it a go. I’ll still send out texts though, it’s nice to have peeps call me back with all the details I need and not hang around while they faff about looking for the model no. 😀
Hmm. thinking maybe I could use this method when I want to contact Connect.
“Hello, this is …. a/c no. … Please could you call me back on ….. between 2pm and 2.05pm today with the part number and your best price for the door seal on a ..etc. ”
I’ll write the draft in my phone now. 😉
Ah, just realised, I’d ideally need a mobile number for them. Now how can I get round that?
Anybody from Connect reading this? How about it?

Could be somewhere in main supply, e.g. RF filter.

Could try running fan alone and if it still trips try running it off a flying lead to confirm it’s the fan. Could be the selector switch if not the fan.

Mine’s got a flashing red light. Helps a lot.
Seriously though, I just realised recently how much I’m being ripped off for calls to mobiles from landline. So I’m now trying a new strategy. Whenever I need to call back someone who’s left a message with only a mobile, I send them a text asking them to call me back in a specified time window with make model and fault details all to hand. Sorry, bit off topic but you need to use every trick to cut outgoings when times are hard.

😕 The few commercial models I’ve worked on had the drop down panel below the door (albeit often a bit stuck) which gave easy access to thermal fuse on front of trunking IIRC.

Just have to admire CDSL’s latest effort to help those of us still plying this dying trade to pass the interminable hours between call-outs.

What kind of poor wretch of a business owner would be reduced to poring over this sleep-inducing publication just to find small pictures of chocolate-coloured lagomorphs? :rolls: What do they take us for?
If this was a ploy to encourage us to buy items featured in the update, then it’s been an abject failure as far as I’m concerned. 😡
I went through the whole thing with a fine-toothed comb searching for the little buggers without noticing one item for sale.
