Brushes with holders are just a modern luxury to avoid getting dirty hands. Real men have nothing to do with them! 😆

I lay the Zan on its back, pull the springs out with cable ties, pull out the leg pins and pull the cabinet back up, leaving the tub on the floor.Like Martin, I seem to remember the boot to dryer clamp being fiddly.
    Aren’t cable ties wonderful?

Is that one of those delicate see through ribbon cables? Must look out for that in future. Thanks for taking the trouble to keep us informed, not like these bods who post a prob then disappear! 🙄

Re: Hotpoint brushes – laminated vs thin.

I’m glad to hear that some of you are finding it worthwhile.
I still stick by my point that I need to have something held back with which to “make up” orders if I’m not to keep customers waiting too long.
But I guess I just spend much less on parts than most.
For example I spent an hour changing the end bearing on an old GDA motor today(it was well stuck on, I had to give it the hammer approach in the end – then there was all the messy carbon clean up and changing the melted tacho coil). Not worth it I hear you say, just get a new motor, but it’s a bit of a banger, the customer is as poor as a church mouse and she’s been a good customer over the years and I just felt like spending some time pottering at home. ‘S what self employment’s all about innit?

Interesting thought. This plug must have the wires matted into a sort of mesh. 😆

I suppose what makes it different is the limited access at the back. What t**t designed that? The other day I had to pull a Hotperloni module out through that hole. What a pain!.

Re: Hotpoint brushes – laminated vs thin.

    Thanks for the offer Dave.
There is a reason why I (nor anyone else so far) has jumped at it and that reason,I think, is as follows:-
We like to keep orders of essentials like this until the moment they will be needed to make an order with one of the big suppliers up to the required carriage free threshold.
So really this is the factor IMO which makes the whole bulk buying show not worth persuing 😥
It would only be worth it if we could buy a competitively large range from this one source. That would mean UKW becoming a BIG spares supplier. I don’t expect anyone here is really interested in doing that, are they?

That said, it could just be worth 💡 somebody filling a garage with 16146077’s
on the basis of selling small quantities after they’re obsolete. But there’s probably no-one who wants to risk tying up that much capital and leaving their car out in the rain. 🙄

    Re: WMA bearing change

A small technical point. (I’ve only done the one WMA change).
I don’t recall having any great difficulty with the plastic pegs. Can one of you enlighten me (just to satisfy my curiosity) are they any different from Zan ones? I remember getting the tub out through the front. Would it not be a good idea to use a long socket, as suggested before by Martin, and as you do so slip a quarter inch ext bar through its middle and tap it gently out or at least halfway out if you’re then going to lay the beast on its front.?

On the wider question, isn’t variety the spice of life?

Re: Not the advice I wanted

You’re gonna get the odd one like this just now and again. I had one a couple of weeks back. Long tale of mis-understanding leading to his ending up thinking that it was my fault that the machine could not be economically repaired. I sent him a letter outlining what had gone wrong from my perspective and enclosing a bill for the parts used only at trade cost. (Claiming nothing for labour). I had made a lot of effort to give good service and ended up about £60 out of pocket and lots of time wasted.
So far no reply but writing the letter with the bill put the onus to make reparation on him and cleared my frustration. After that I was able to forget about it and get on with serving nice customers (the overwhelming majority). He has made a rod for his own back because he will no longer be able to call on (probably) the best repairer in town!

I rather miss the philosophical quotes. Could they not be re-instated alongside the advertisements. They give the customer a small bit of extra insight into who they are dealing with. And I found them enjoyable to read.
