Just an odd thought….is the customer putting the salt in the salt pot?

Customer: Oh, don’t worry about the floor. I’ll mop it up after.

Yes, that is more or less what I am thinking too. Possibly the pressure switch(es?) are getting a corrupted signal.

Thanks Shaun. Trouble with the Bosch is the magnet is very thin but large diameter (maybe 45mm) and it fits right inside the motor casing, not on the outside like others. (As I daresay you know.) I don’t think there’s room for a filling sort of compound like that if you see what I mean. That’s why superglue would have been ideal as it is best when thinly coated. Just didn’t have the adhesive strength to overcome the centrifugal force – or perhaps I didn’t get it quite right under field operating conditions. It may be that she’ll get another machine tomorrow – there’s 3 good Bosch up for grabs in the local household auction! But if she doesn’t, I might have another crack at it.

If it uses conventional thermostats which use a bimetal and go click ๐ then yes there will be a different one for each temperature. If it uses a thermistor (aka ntc) it will probably only have one.
I would have thought you would have known that ๐ .
I think some old ADP’s are Whirlpool and the stats are clipped in just behind the front baseplate to the left of centre, so easy to get at. I’ve had them go intermittent which could give the very symptoms you describe. Only substitution can really nail it. Live testing is the quickest way to find out which stat is being used when, unless you can get the info. (Which I have very seldom had. But paucity of info. is a great motivator for the mind.)
Mike.
Edit: Tried a search on Connect for parts for this one and nothing comes up under tempearture or thermostat or ntc.
Then, tried a search on Google, “ADP8342 temperature” and first two hits are from public forums on here! Second hit, last post asserts“Re: Diplomat ADP8342 dishwasher…

no! it’s not a fault! just make sure there is salt in it! this happened to me too!”

But if that doesn’t sort it you could have a look further down the page.leavemetogetonwithit

And all that time I thought we were talking about a washing machine :rolls: .
How is it so many of you seem to think that everyone knows every model of every make and does not need to be informed of the type of appliance that is being referred to? It doesn’t make all that much difference in the context of this particular query but sometimes I’ve wasted my time in a fruitless search for parts. For example, looking on Connect and only realising that I was looking under the wrong appliance type when I did not find the model under washers.
It’s one of the reasons I’ve gone off this site a bit recently.

That was exactly what the one I had was doing. If not a brush sticking, maybe it’s something to do with a poor connection somewhere in the motor circuit.

I don’t know the model numbers much where Miele are concerned but if it’s over 5 years old or has had particularly heavy use, you may find this thread of some help http://www.ukwhitegoods.co.uk/forumsphpbb3/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=64603&hilit=Miele
Miele always tuck a full circuit diagram in somewhere usually behind the front panel in a plastic bag and stuck in with double sided tape.
It’s in German of course but they provide a sheet giving translation of all terms.

Had an AWOD5* something the other day which would start to spin but give up before it got up to speed. Everything looked fine and there was no blackening of the commutator. Still, I knew it had had a hard life so I went for the brushes and sure enough they were down. Were Ceset (Zanussi version).

10Kg and 1600 spin and still in a box about the same size – maybe a little deeper than normal? Maybe they’re not anticipating a requirement for any spares just yet. After all, as it’s built on Titanic principles; what could possibly go wrong? ๐

It’s the way of the world. Daresay a complete new drum and tub will only be a ton or so and maybe worth doing for a ยฃ500 machine. Dirty, messy, noisy bearing changes will soon be a thing of the past along with other skills.
