    “Auction Type:

Hmm. Interesting but I think that may just mean the buyers left a lot of junk behind and just took the cherries. Bet it’s gone to China.

in reply to: Askoll drain pump rotor swapping. #335998

Re: Askoll drain pump rotor swapping.

Well, the thing that prompted my question was that I thought I needed a bayonet pump for an AEG. But I mis-understood the model no. (Lav68200 not L68200) and it now turns out that I actually need a screw fit one. The proper one for the job is about thirty quid plus the usual, trade. And I had told my friend/customer that I would do the job all in for £35 because I only did the bearings on it a couple of weeks ago and they’re not very well off and he was contemplating going for new and they are very very nice people. I’m gonna look a bit of a tit when I tell him it’ll be more like £55. I was trying to get him not to scrap it. I didn’t need to see the pump when I diagnosed it. It was enough to see it down the end of the filter opening and feel the 2mm of wobble on the impellor. I just assumed that the worst case scenario would be a standard bayonet Askoll. (Phew, I could have done the job by now.)
So, to get to the point. The proper pump looks like a larger than normal Plaset judging by the pic on Connect (5031688181182). Why does it need to be larger? The drum doesn’t hold more water than a standard Zanussi, does it? What if I bunged in a WMA type Plaset (has toc, though front facing terminals might be a problem)? Obviously I won’t take any risks with safety, but it just seems odd to me why they’ve used a larger pump. Does anybody know why?

Thanks for the suggestion, Martin. I’ve thought about doing that for years but never actually gone ahead for several reasons. 1. Stock control. 2. The friends I could ask this favour of would not let me go within 2 hours if I called on them to pick up a pump. 3. Its scarcely worth it. I always go prepared & I hardly ever need stuff that can’t wait for a day or two or a week even.

Now, on Phidom’s point. We have sandy beaches here, too. I find it’s the impellor end bearing that gets the wear, not the one down the bottom, and that bearing is part of the new rotor/impellor.

Mike, are you saying that the fault might be on the module itself, in this case is it a new board?

    Mark
Yes and no. I’m saying that these modules that are down in the base of the machine with a big connector plug along one short edge are prone to burning up of said connector. If you catch it early enough, you can rewire it with seperate amp tags. Sometimes it blows a triac or two if it’s left too long before they call you.

Re: Unusual Hotpoint Condensor dryer fault.

Got TDC60 not heating. Went out, put on 20 mins. Sure enough, no heat. Got my green spot kit out 😯 ready but it wasn’t that 😕 . Got my front stat out ready but it wasn’t that 😕 . Element looks fine. Volts to element? Meter says, “no.” Machine was in outhouse and everything for miles around was covered in dust so I whipped out the module and brought it home and asked customer to give area a bit of a clean up if she wouldn’t mind.
What is it likely to be?

Well, six weeks or so have passed since the deadline for tenders. Anyone know what’s going on?

    Re: laden top loader

I’m pretty sure they’re built like the old Philips top loaders. You should be able to get a side panel off, pull out the element and, if that’s not sufficient, the tub side will probably be held on with clips. Though the first approach would be to try and revolve the drum to free the trapped clothing (?).

    Re: Zanussi DWS919 No fill

What a hassle they made access to that thing. Was pretty clean but pulled it off anyway and gave the partially blocked adjoining hoses a clean out. Couldnt remember which way round the pink vent(?) hose and the clear hose to the water valve went 😳 so put pink hose above as it was slightly longer and it seemed to work OK. Hopefully it’s all gonna be fine now. :cya:

What’s IWMS? Is it fill matrix?
I’ve got one of these giving me a headache. I tapped the valve and it worked for a week or two. Then went back with new valve when it failed again. Now a month later, I’ve got to go back for the same fault. 🙁
