    Phil,

It will almost certainly be the Element at fault. A replacement is readily available at our “Shop@” section as in the link below: –

    Dave,

Thanks for that, I see now what you mean, whereas in your first statement it read that you took the card details BEFORE you got to the customers house.

Jonah wrote:so we can authorise it before we even go there,

Whereas what you actually meant was before you completed the repair, ah! now I get it, nice one 😉

Now, on the Mobile PDQ thing if I may, I personally enquired with Lloyds TSB over these gizmo’s and they want about £700 plus for one of these gadgets AND a cellphone subscription on the Orange network to action it. I can’t remember the detail right now but it meant an investment up front of about £800 before you even started. Then they wanted 3.5{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} interest on all transactions after that. Call me stupid, but I figured they were taking the pi** ?

I will continue with my Paper Voucher system I reckon for a while and keep my money safe, and ******!!!?? to the bank :lol2:

    Rob,

First thing to do is take the drawer out, clean it thoroughly especially the syphon nozzle and test it under the tap to see it working!

Then clean the dispenser cavity with a pan brush or similar, concentrating on the holes directly above the fabric conditioner compartment. You may also need to poke say a plastic cable tie into the holes to clear them thoroughly. 🙂

Finally, check the cold water inlet filter at the back to see if that is clear. 😯

If that fails to solve the problem, then the Inlet Solenoid Valve is faulty and needs replacing 😉

Re: Amusing Anecdotes & Other Tales

I seem to generate a fair degree of ‘Crackpots’ added month after month to my ‘Client Database’ all of which incidentally I enter in red typeface to highlight caution next time 😆 .

Yesterday was another one for the red typeface treatment 🙁

A regular 3 bed detached in downtown suburbia, with lots of warning labels attached to the front door “NO CIRCULARS, NO HAWKERS, NO WELCOME!” …you know the kind of thing…anyway, customer lets me in eventually and ushers me to the kitchen. Points to the dishwasher and says “It don’t work!” When I enquired as to what exactly was the problem, she indignantly replied “That’s for you to find out surely?” and added, “How long do you think you will be?” To which I replied “Dunno, maybe 30 minutes?”…… She then cracked, “Fine I will come back in 30 minutes then!” and shut the Kitchen/Hall door and locked it as she went!!!

I was effectively locked in at this point but noticed the key in the back door and realised I at least had an escape route 🙄 Basically the dishwasher was all bunged up with tea and coffee grounds, the whole internal pipes, chambers and cavities clogged with the stuff. Took me a good 30 minutes to clear out anyway, but as I was locked in, couldn’t get my lovely customer to hear me shouting that it was all fixed and that she owed me a kings ransom for the privilege.

The only choice was for me to telephone her using my mobile to say the job was done. She answered and said she would be right along, unlocking the door and entering I told her what the problem was and queried why so much tea and coffee was in the machine anyway? She replied that she and her entire family drink lots of the stuff and only use the dishwasher to dispose of the dregs and wash the teapot 😯 And that she washes all the normal dishes and pans by hand and wouldn’t ‘trust’ the machine to do it anyway ❗

I didn’t comment further, just collected my ransom money and left 😉

Every day this job brings something new eh? :lol2:

    Dave,

Please can you explain the need for this and indeed how on earth do you get a potential new customer to give their credit card details over like that 😕

Surely accepting cheques with Bankers Card is far cheaper in terms of bank charges, than any Credit Card transaction anyway ❓

andy_art_trigg wrote:I don’t know if any Indesits are similarly affected though.

Yep, sure are  as with any modern electronic controlled machine, if the complete circuit is ‘interrupted’ then nothing works. What normally happens is that on first setting the programme there is a slight but noticeable ‘delay’ before it bursts into life. That is simply the EPROM circuitry checking all its dependant components prior to start-up 😯

Try it for yourself next time on a perfectly (albiet rare) servicable Indesit, just disconnect the Motor Plug and switch back on…..I guarantee you will find it DEAD!!! 8)

Bl**dy electronic nightmare really, don’t talk to me about Error codes either, that’s another headache, but somehow we have to make a living from this lot of modern wizardary :haier:

Re: Zanussi Aquacycle 1400 & Condenser Dryer TC 7114

    Steve,

It does sound a little odd that your machine shrinks clothing at just 40 degrees. Todays electronic controlled Zanussi, like so many of its counterparts, does take much longer to complete a wash cyle than earlier machines though 🙁 (Indesit and Bosch machines even longer sometimes)

Condensor dryers however, (unless yours is ‘electronic controlled, which I don’t believe it is) then one has to pay careful attention to the User Instruction Book otherwise you could ‘Cook your undies’ 😆 Timing and heat setting must be carefully monitored 😉

You are feeding the washing machine with a cold water supply are you and haven’t got the hot/cold hoses mixed up???? Otherwise get someone to check your washing machine out and exercise caution with your dryer I reckon

kheath wrote:to “borrow” might involve credit licenses and would be hard to get these in this day and age.

No, no, no, the point is, we do not need to take that route. Much better to regard UKW Subscriber Funding as a Private Members Club and deal with such things as ‘loans’ to individual members as a strictly private written agreement within. Whereas Credit Licences are mostly to do with public domain transactions, consumer rights and all that baloney.

Alex wrote:The pooling or banding of companies to create a buying partnership regards insurance etc. Great, will save money; but there are too many doing that anyway, (Corgi, Retra, F.P.B. F.S.B. or possibly DASA if they wake up from hibernation).

I’m not sure of the value one gets from the likes of Corgi, Retra etc’s schemes. I suspect it is a cunning scheme they set up to fool members into thinking there is greater reason in joining their association and citing it as a ‘benefit’. But as we may well know, one can often search around for cheaper deals and be better off for it. However, it surely must be viable to at least enquire if UKW could negotiate such a facility with Insurance Companies and Brokers.

Buying a block insurance policy for a fleet of say 5 vans would mean some percentage discounted premium I would imagine. If we therefore could multiply that at least tenfold as a UKW based scheme would possibly mean even greater discount hopefully 🙂

Alex wrote:The trade knows we are out there, and they look in from time to time. It is difficult for us to go anywhere without becoming a Trade Association

Oh dear 🙁 , the very mention of Trade Association brings shivers down many a spine, that’s for sure. I am sure UKW will take a more 21st century approach to the needs of this industry in a more democratic and realistic way derived through greater individual participation. By that I mean each and every member calls the shots and sets the standards without the beaurocratic dogma that has plagued this trade for years and got it in the mess it is now in. 😡

The key word here I suggest is INDEPENDENCE and UKW and its members in time will have enough CLOUT to help direct the whole whitegoods industry back on a level footing by influencing public opinion against the moguls that produce so much crap and treat us like pond life 👿

And this ideal can only be brought about by encouraging even more to join our ranks and to voice their own independent opinions freely. However we must first offer some incentive for them to participate by providing certain ‘benefits’ such as we are presently discussing.

Positive proposals need to be put in place meanwhile prior to the next meeting (in Feb). Then acted on immediately by delegation to get things moving as soon as is possible and not allow anything to get bogged down and delayed. Ideas in ‘ones head’ are all well and good but I for one cannot accept unnecessary delays otherwise we will be talking over the same stuff at every 6 monthly meeting and not getting anywhere. 🙁

    Ken,

Show a red rag to a bull eh 😆 Well here goes………

Regarding Subscribers Funds, I would like to propose that they be utilised, administered and agreed solely by the (soon to be formed) Advisory Council in the following ways : –

1). To provide a Rainy Day Fund for any individual member to ‘borrow’ on a fixed term basis should that member get into financial difficulties and need access to a short term business cash injection.

2). Funding set aside for Legal Representation used in a similar vein and purpose as the Rainy Day Fund, should any member require support for his/her business.

3). Exclusive access to Shared Technical Information including software, software up-dates, PDF files and Service Manuals compiled exclusively by UKW and under UKW copyright controls.

4). Members funds to be used to purchase hardware/equipment needed to utilise item 3 above.

5). Commercial Vehicle Insurance Co-operative, enabling members to get discounted insurance renewals through one Insurance Underwriter approved and commissioned by UKW.

6). Public Liability Insurance, again as in item 5 above.

Many other ‘items’ could easily be added as I am sure to have overlooked something. It is recognised that members would wish their hard earned money to be invested in solid, well thought out and agreed on projects, for the benefit of each and every subscriber.

May my comments form part of a major item on the agenda for discussion at the next and indeed future meetings should it be necessary.

Why bother to try to get what will be an expensive replacement on a machine that is 7yrs old anyway? Whats the state of the other components like by now ❓

    Marky Mark,

The problem will be due to the “Air Bell” saturated with ‘crud’ and needs carefully removing and cleaning.

Not a regular DIY job though 🙁 so I would recommend contacting your local firm to sort it 🙂 Look into our “Directories” section for one of our approved agents to fix it at a modest cost 😉
