Very interesting point here, in fact I contacted YP over this and apparently its an ‘old scam’ they are well aware of. Many and various trades and services have been blighted by ‘rogue callers’ of this type.
They are pleased to point out that they DO NOT give up on anyone that cancels advertising. In fact they contact the ‘contract holder’ both on the telephone and by post for any confirmation feed-back on cancellations. So therefore it is no longer possible for a ‘third party’ to do such things and get away with it 😉

Simonb,
🙂 A very warm welcome to UKW ! 🙂
I understand your concern and apprehension over starting out on your own. Certainly advertising in the local papers is the best and cheapest short term way of getting trade. If you also add to your wording “£5 off all repairs on production of this advert!” That will possibly give you a better response as to knowing how well your ad is read at least 😉
Do please read the thread on this forum about “Free estimates” as interesting comments are posted there. And as Alex mentions about Yellow Pages/Thompson Local, don’t go for too large an advert but make it stand out instead, a better investment.
Also, I use ‘NEBS Tough Shield Vinyl Labels’ http://www.nebs.co.uk they are the transparent type and a good permanent reminder to your customer when placed strategically on the machine. Guarantees repeat business 😉

Noel,
Looking at the front, which side is leaking?
The Water Matrix is on the L/H Side (the ‘thing’ you are describing 😕 )

Ollie,
Dave is the whizz kid on these old contraptions 🙂 , but with his permission 😉 , I would suspect the Salt/Regeneration system is the culprit. Either a faulty valve or the Ion Exchanger has thrown in the towel.
Its old and needs putting out to pasture in all honesty 🙁

JMW,
Most likely your machine has either a internal leak or the water block on the water inlet valve has tripped. Unplug the machine from the electricity supply firstly. Turn off the water supply, disconnect the inlet hose to the machine then reconnect and turn on again. ‘Reset’ the programme and try running it again. If that fails, switch off the power once again, pull the machine forward slightly and tip it backwards against the wall to drain off what may well be a flooded bottom tray? Try it again and let us know the outcome?

Dimo,
The best persons to answer Emprom questions specific to these Modules is EMW Ltd (See Trade Spares Suppliers in ‘Web Links’) They will repair and reprogramme your Module for you 😉

Dave_Conway wrote:So, yes, we do need to keep up the “you get what you pay for” message in the public forums IMO.
This idea will go along nicely with Kens project of an ‘Engineers Survey’ being put out in the Public Forums. It has to be neat and tidy, very factual, honest and open. It will go a storm IMHO 😉
UKW is getting 1,000’s of regular ‘hits’ daily via Google etc from the public at large, mostly queries on Diplomat, Hygena, Smeg, Servis etc. If we had reams and reams of stuff on Merloni, Hoover and Zanussi, the search engines will lap it up AND MORE IMPORTANTLY those that simply type in say “Hotpoint Washing Machine”, will find these pages top of the list.
We type daily on these machine of course but only within the Trade Forums which Google cannot access for info ( 😕 at least I think I’m right on that 😕 ) Therefore more for the public to see, the more the ‘Trade’ will take note 💡
Needs careful organising though 😉

Good idea Penguin, shall we move it (or copy it) there I wonder?

P.S. And no I’m having a great day, worrying about my forthcoming Tax demand actually 🙂

Participantkwatt wrote:Primarily manufacturers but also work providers and insurers will have to face up to this at some point and some point soon. The question I have is are they prepared to help us help themselves as otherwise they will be left with a “swap-out” only option and what with the environmental concerns and the upcoming WEEE Directive, which I still don’t think that they are prepared to cope with, they all could have an awfully big headache to look forward to.
Indeed so, all of us in every aspect of the trade will have to address this problem sooner rather than later. In fact in many industries in general if the truth be known 🙁
Possibly the only way to control this is through EU legislation (i.e the WEEE Directive) imposing stiff penalties on those manufacturers who produce goods that cannot be recycled. A good enough reason perhaps?
But I still have to wonder why this should happen in the first place? Surely the manufacturers can see the ‘dayglo’ writing on the wall too? How come such historically respected brand name goods are taking this route? Why cannot someone ( Merloni for example) produce a ‘Top Drawer’ brand name of their own (Like the Lexus Brand did for Toyota) a different name targeting the ‘quality end’ of the market (with full dealer/service back-up though!) Just to see their market expand into a longer lasting, quality demanding standard of production that we in the civilised world are truly capable of and quite possibly may well demand. 🙄

Superdod,
According to the ‘Error Code’ list for your machine, there is no such error code of 13 flashes I’m afraid. Either you have mis-counted or you have some weird problem 😕
Check the obvious (i.e Pump blockages, open circuit inlet valves etc etc) beyond that it MUST be a ‘Control Module’ error or connections to it 😉
Do make sure you un-plug the machine totally from the supply before taking the back off
Hope that helps?

Nemo,
I can email you wiring diagrams, sequence charts, fault finding stuff, whatever you like, my pleasure, no problem. But you know 😉 The best way to answer your problem and whatever future problems you may encounter with Electrolux/Zanussi stuff, is to obtain the “Distriparts TDS Offline CD Rom’….a priceless guide for us in the trade 😉
Meanwhile I could copy wiring diagrams, fault finding etc etc if you wish. Just let me know! 🙂

Thanks again 😥You’ve got so far by taking it to little pieces so you should see the job through I guess 😕 Putting it all back together is always a challenge though, even for us in the trade 😉

ParticipantRe: Creda washing machine burning out motors
I concur with Penguin on this, the pump must drain away the water as quickly as possible, otherwise the motor labours in trying to spin off the water. The ‘sump hose trap/filter’ will most likely be blocked or restricted in some way. If your machines drain is coupled to the sink, that coupling may well be partially blocked and worth a check. 💡
Also do avoid ‘continuous’ wash loads. 😉 Give your machine a 10 or 15 minute break between washes to enable the motor a chance to ‘cool off!’.

The ‘Parrot in the Fridge’ story is exactly what I am after and surely you folks out there can ‘top’ that 🙂 ……..I have to say at this stage, a bit of a slow response to the request in general, but early days so far 8)
Another example to kick start your enthusiasm for the project perhaps 😉 : –
Engineer calls to a machine under guarantee, to discover the problem due to a Bra Wire caught between the tub and drum. Explains to customer that Bra wires caught in machine are not covered by warrantee and therefore are fully chargeable…Customer: “Cannot be possible, I don’t wear wired bra’s, it must be part of the drum breaking up or something!” Engineer: I can assure you it is a bra wire caught inside and unless you pay me to remove it I am leaving right now!”…Customer refuses the diagnosis and engineer goes without comment.
Later that day the phone rings at the office, its ‘The Husband’ and sounding very apologetic, explains that he firmly agrees with the engineers diagnosis, furthermore agreeing to pay at least DOUBLE the cost to get him back and remove the offending article A.S.A.P !!!!
It transpired that the ‘wife’ was a ‘Long Haul’ Air Stewardess and whilst she was flying somewhere 1,000’s of miles away from home, HE was having ‘extra terrestial activities’ back home, AND allowing HIS ‘GUEST’ the use of the washing machine as well 😉 😉
The bra wire was removed successfully as well as the husband when the truth emerged a short while later 😯
Now if you possibly could let me have your stories (DO NOT POST THEM HERE, but please ‘pm’ me 😛Thanks
