ParticipantRe: Can one buy a new W/M less than 60cms wide?
don wrote:Hope this is of some help.
It is thanks Don, I always knew that m/c’s were a standard 600X600X820ish but didn’t realise the older generation ‘Matchbox’ Hoover was less than that and in this case fitted into a ‘feet & inches’ 26year old kitchen. So sadly the lady has got to get a man in to carve the cupboards about to shove a new box in then 😥

Good news indeed Ken and congrats on the sites high Internet rating by the way. In spite of all the good positive news I will still continue my input then (It obviously isn’t putting them off at least 😉 )

Del wrote:The main reason for this IMO is that too much access to this site is given for free.
I Feel that people never really fully appreciate or respect anything that they are given to cheaply.
As a group we have a great wealth of hard earned experiance, skills, technical information, business contacts,ect.ect. and it pain’s me sometimes to see it all given away for nothing to gifted amatures.I agree with that sentiment Del but I figure the whole basis of UKW’s success is built around FREE usage for all. And as we discussed the matter at Sibson the only possible way direct funding could be generated was through a voluntary scheme such as we have here and now. Perhaps what we could discuss is the possibilty of placing “Trade Technical Information” within this forum thus somewhat forcefully inviting many more to join us. However I think that too would have the opposite effect.
Penguin muted recently that he thought membership ‘to our trade forums’ was in decline and I have noted a number of absentees of late myself. It is likely therefore that UKW will have to maintain a forward heading for the forseeable future in the fervent hope of encouraging even more to join BEFORE we start asking for them to dip into their wallets.
I try to do my bit to put a lot into the site, making it more interesting and informative in the hope of encouraging folks to check out the site regularly. I believe that unless this site gets more from its regulars many will go in droves through lack of information anyway. Darned if you do danged if you don’t I guess 😉

ParticipantRe: BRITISH GAS ACCUSE
How appropriate this thread for me to share a little ‘incident’ I had with a ‘British Gas Engineer’ today: –
I was driving (with window open due to hot weather) up to a mini roundabout. I nudged out rather forcefully perhaps (well I was in a hurry) and the British Gas Van had to hit the brakes a bit smartish to let me by. And in full cry says to me “Are you some kind of f*****g prat mate?”.
….to which I replied YES but your f*****g ugly!”
Cowboy meets sheriff perhaps or is it the other way round ?… dunno 😕

ParticipantRe: Servis M3022/M module blown!
Deep joy and much satisfaction after getting the module repaired (by HJM) unclipping the burnt terminals on the module block and turning them round (as penguin suggested-tnks!). Checking all other components carefully before switching it on to test (using eastlmarks broom handle technique-tnks agn!). and also just as Lawrence suggested it would work-tnks 😉
Machine works a treat, very happy customer promises never to switch off the m/c and switch it back on again no more. 1 years parts & labour guarantee £101.46 all in…..magic 😉
Thanks guys for your words of wisdom AND encouragement AND thanks of course to Servis 😉

Pinky,
I think it may well be a dicky Heater Relay contact on the Power Module board.(Dry joint even?) Run a soldering iron over the board terminals too will help for intermittent faults like that.
Good luck 😆

Pedro,
For a US style 2 door fridge I personally recommend Admiral (aka) Maytag. Also the Samsung is good value.

No probs seamy,
Incidentally, to distract your customer from standing over you and watching simply ask “I work better with a cup of tea love, any chance of a brew?” She then buggers off to make one and you are set to fumble with the fascia 😉
It’s what ya know and how you go about it I reckon 🙂

By the time anyone from Corgi (or individual Corgi members for that matter) forward their complaint to the Advertising Standards Authority(A.S.A.) BG’s ad will have run its course anyway!
My advice therefore is not to wear a Sheriffs Badge or carry a gun when you knock on a customers door! 😉

ParticipantRe: Indesit W161
Had another ‘write off’ today with this model. Did take a close look to try and figure out what happened though. Basically, and in my estimation I think what happened was: – Large family washing machine, loads of endless washbaskets to empty, machine does 4/5 loads every day. Armature gets a little on the warm side after the 4th wash, suddenly starts to cook…..
……..module says to the motor “its getting hot in here!”, motor says to module “sod you, lets keep going!”…….module overheats and blows big time taking with it the slave timer, 13 amp fuse and the house trip switch and all with it…..!!!!!!!!
Coroners report : – Death by misadventure 😉

Crikey Alex, seems like you got the record so far and I know what you mean about chucking the towel in and stuff 🙁
These ‘modern’ machines fill us with a great sense of foreboding and reluctance to even attempt to fix, throwing ‘job satisfaction’ on our backsides.
I can only hope in my case that when I get the module back and plug it in and switch on ‘using eastlmark’s broom handle technique’ I don’t get the same feelings 😯
