Re: Worriedabout ny new dishwasher Borsch SRS55L22GB

    Hi
As far as i’m aware this model is STILL availiable, and is a slimline machine, the SRS66L22GB does not exsist as a slimline and the model should be SGS66L22GB which would make it a full size 12 place setting appliance. BSH group do use a multitude of model numbers on many similar groups of appliances and this can get very confusing for the consumer, generally most parts are all identical between brand, for example Neff and Siemens and Bosch appliances butjust varie cosmeticly, even electronic components are the same, just coded accordingly to that appliance, spare parts are availible for ALL group appliances until at least 10 years old. BSH hold nearly all parts UK stock, if not, parts are availiable from Germany in less than 10 days! All engineers work are pre prepped and spares for the following days work are delivered the night before.
Rest assured, you have made a good choice of appliance, its a high end appliance, very popular and extremely reliable, but as Jim has said, you don’t always get the answers you require from inrternet purchases.
I would ask first, are you using tablets or liquid, powder and if so are you adding rinse aid and salt??
As far as I have found, 3 in 1 etc tabs are useless without seperat rinse aid and salt. Powder and liquid detergents are a no no as they tend to seperate or can be under or over dosed, leave steaks and aggrevate glass erosion.
The chemical salt in tablets does NOTHING, water softening takes place in the water softner, the salt is used to regenerate this and flush it, the machine does not wash in salty water, the chemical in the tablet never enters the water softner and without salt to regenerate it will block up and fail.
Rinse aid causes the water to displace as it breaks the surface tension of the water, like when you polish a car and wet it, the water beads off, rinse aid creates the same effect. Without rinse aid the machine will not dry effectively and pools of water will be left. The rinse aid in detergent is not sufficiant and will be lost well before the final rinse where it is needed.
The machine relies on residual heat from the last rinse to dry so it is of paramount importance that the machine is not disturbed during the last rinse/dry as heat will be lost and drying will not take place. Plastic wil NOT dry as it is not thermally effeciant and cannot store heat to dry unlike stoneware which will store heat and dry nicely.
Items must be removed as soon as the appliance has finished as if it is left to cool down and go cold, any water inside the machine will re-condense back onto the wash load.
Quick wash programme will not dry, and will also leave detergent residue as is not intended for main wash loads, its just not hot enough for the task and will not break down all the detergent, grease etc, this programme is most suited for glasses, which require a lower tempreture. Washing glassware on hot washes will cause glass erosion (cloudiness).
The streaks you report may be down to detergent but without seeing it I am mystified, also its worth buying a decent brand detergent such as Finish.
If you are still concerned it may be worth speaking to someone in Product Advice, if they cannot give you an answer and my information does not help then an engineer visit may be the only route, its worth bearing in mind that 95{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} of dishwashers I get called to for ‘faults’ tend to be customer misunderstanding of the product.
    Hope this helps

    Re: Bosch WAA24161 W/M opinions?

The WAA machines are very similar to what was the WFD.
They are manufactured in both Spain and Poland, they can be distinguished between countrys by the serial number although my memory fails me on the numbers, although I will follow up on this sometime. One easy way though of telling country of origin is as follows, looking at the side of the appliance, if it has 3 large rectangular pressings its Spanish, if it has many long finger like pressings it is Polish.
Genarally I have found them to be very satisfactory for lighter domestic use, and certainly fair better against similar priced alternative brands.
The end user still gets the 2 year warranty.
The teething problems seen on early variants have now been solved with things like bigger bearings, reinforced drums and improved facia panels, BSH always take component failiure very seriously and insist on removed parts being returned for inspection, this ultimatly leads to improvement of components as any defect under warranty is charged to the factory concerned.
Information is coming out slowly and Quickfinder is updated regularly although the engineers are (usually) 😕 the first to get it before its stuck on the net.
As for suppliers, You many also wish to contact Denwood, they are from Calne in Wiltshire and are a rather competative wholesaler.
    Hope this all helps! 8)

    Re: Bosch WFO2864

NTC failure or a break in the circuit can cause this fault and many other strange ones, although the most common reason they abort in spin is due to brushes not seating correctly, I have found this with both genuine and pattern brushes & usually need going at with a white brush seater stick. The electronics are very sensative on the Eurowashers.
Running spin reduction can help for the first few washes as the abort usually happens as the machine creeps towards a higher RPM.
The burnt out wiring I have seen before and has always been caused by a leak from the seal or heater area

Re: DOMESTIC APPLIANCES LIFESPAN AND GLOBAL WARMING

I know this is all going off the original thread but it needs to be said, Its the attitude of the public, we’re all engineers, we fix things and why we have a desire to be an engineer, its the customers that choose to buy replacement appliances and deprive us of our job, there also probably thousands of cheap machines out there giving good service, but, if it lasts 3 years and breaks the customer thinks that is acceptable and buys another without question, that breaks after say 18 months and they ask ‘WHY? the other only lasted 3 years, modern machines are crap’
We are all here to make a living, the problem is the customer thinks we’re getting fat off them, if only they knew the sad truth. How many times do you hear ‘How much? You havn’t been here 20 minutes’
How many times do you answer the phone and they say, I was wondering how much this or that is or do you know what it could be and then you get ‘OK i’ll let you know if i want it repaired’ only for them to fix it themselves or wreck it and go and buy one on the never never from a retail ‘shed’ whilst the smiling assasin sells them another warranty to do you out of more work.
Lets face it, if the curent trend continues with warrantys, throw away machines and carrot dangling 5 year service plans, then we all might as well pack it in, they have already got it all sewn up, we’re stitched.
I’ve been down the NO CALL OUT route doing contract work, yes i was busy, but didn’t earn anything at it, the bloke that ran that business now works in Tesco stacking shelves. I’m not joking either.
How many engineers do you folks know that have thrown it all in?
Lets hope this new legislation will change things for the better and people are made to consider the repair option as a cheaper alternative to replacement 🙂

Re: DOMESTIC APPLIANCES LIFESPAN AND GLOBAL WARMING

Lets face it, its the customers that are causing the problem and they are only now realising, gone are the days when people paid 500 to 700 quid for a washing machine that lasted them at least 10 years, they have an attitude towards ‘If its more than 75 to 100 quid to repair i’ll scrap it’ and these were machines that are a viable repair and could be repaired.
The manufacturers are giving them what they want, crappy machines for 200 quid that last ‘Just out of the Warranty’ then they go and buy another one! The manufacturers flood the market with the ‘crap’, all the good machines are gone.
How many of us are going out to machines now, less than 5 years old that can be fixed, not many I reckon due to poor materials and poor electronics and over priced spares and practically zero interchangabillity of parts. It seems that the older appliances are the only ones to be fixed, and what happens when these run out? The manufacturers will hold all the cards then and play us to their tune, work for them or no one! They’ll set the rates and we’ll be puppets to them.
If this trend carrys on we’ll all be saying ‘Yes’ to the likes of GIAS and Merloni with a call out of 28quid or less.,
The only constallation is the WEEE direcetive, which should make the manufacturers and public more responsible for their actions, and hopefully it will revrse the current trend, or my friends, we are all DOOMED! 😥

Re: How long in the trade?

Started in 1995 when I was expelled from School……… :rolls:
A local firm I did Saturdays for offered me a full time position in the workshop repairing appliances that weren’t fixed on the road, and as the firm were a Zanussi agent this involved many of the early ‘Jetsystem’ ‘Turbodry’ WDT1013 type machines with the dryer corroded out etc. Also the ‘Washcraft’ and ‘Superluxe’ machines came in occasionally with spiders failed, then the motor became obsolete on the Z919 type and i’d find myself rebuilding the clutches, although these machines proved superb in reliability and are a far cry from the plastic tubbed under sized bearinged split cabinet crap we find these days 😥
We also sold Philco frontloaders with the spot welded stainless steel tank, the spot welds fractured and we’d have to change the complete tank through the top of the machine, not to be done without thick gloves!
We used to get ‘Stock 6’ Hoover Classica and Softwave machines come in to be reworked and TF stock Hotpoint Mistrals.
Never a dull moment, one minute brazing a compressor into a fridge, the next scraping the remains of an incontenance pad out of the local nursing homes Miele Sluice valve, lovely.
And when I asked why, ‘Your the apprentice’. Alan Sugar got nothing on my old boss 😉

    Hi,
Sounds like the NTC to me, never had problems with the power module.
I would try the NTC first as it needs the correct resistance to operate the dryer, disconnecting it is not proving anything really.

    Re: DO YOU TELL THEM

I got to say, it must be hard for the engineers out there who took over our work, I wouldn’t want it back on double pay, the products or the customer. 🙁
But, there will always be a market for it and there will always be a few quid in it to keep the wolf from our door.
The ones that I found the worse that had alovely old Bosch WFF2001 and then got rid of it for a S****s M3024 etc and complained that it was noisy, I actually found myself saying ‘Well why the fcuk did you get rid of it for this pile!’ needless to say I had a few complaints and customer liason did ring up and ask me if i could stop telling the customer the product was crap!! I obliged by changing to my Quality Product line which seemed to agrevate them more.
I did actually have a stetson hat and a pair of cowboy boots in the van, very often or not left on the dashboard, on occasions i even signed the jobsheet Lone Ranger 😆
Oh well, it was all fun while it lasted, the good ole days eh 😉
