The worrying thing is that you could substitute the word ‘Madonna’ with ‘Rod Stewart’ with no notable difference

Peter , the model number is wrong . On the same label where you got the B-AP12-7 , there will be an ENr number . That’ll be the model number. You have put up the serial number . Getting the correct model number will help .

Re: My Hoover Optima has eaten my wife’s bra!!

When the heater is initially fitted and the nut tightened , it pulls the back plate towards the seal , thus compressing it and this fills the hole and therefore mnaking it watertight .
Unscrewing the front nut does not ( 99{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} of the time anyway ) , ‘uncompress’ the seal . It will still be tight in the opening . The back plate will still be pulled up tight to the seal as well .
As Jim said , you will need to gently prise out the rubber seal using a flat bladed screwdriver and once the seal starts to come out , the back plate will follow and then you can remove the complete heater element . 😉

With the cover off of the impellor , push a cable tie underneath the impellor itself . If there is something like a shard of glass in the pump , it may not be visible and by using the cable tie , you may dislodge it . Also shine a torch down on the impellor area as you do it as this sometimes highlights glass pieces.

Can you remove the Google search box ? If its part of your browser , i’m sure you can get rid of it.

Stevie-j , once you have the two bolts out , its just a matter of levering the motor off. It has four hang points so get a big flat bladed screwdriver and use this to get behind the nylon bushings. The bushings stay with the motor.

Apparently it means that the appliance has had 40 hours of operation . Try switching off the fan and pressing the zero key twice

Boy , do i dislike these machines !!! I get the right ‘ump when i see one of these piles of Smeg toot on my daily worksheet .
The only odd one of these i had , giving a spurious error code , was caused , i thin , by a dodgy sounding motor Martin…..but i wouldn’t swear 100{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} by that.

Remember that the drain heater only needs to be fitted on appliances built before January 2007 . Any KGN built after this time has the drain tube heater built-in already.
The real problem that causes the over-icing of the evaporator is that the defrost cycle isn’t quite strong/long enough to clear all the ice from the evaporator when its on that phase . This leaves a small amount of ice which gradually builds up over time.

The module increases the defrost time.
The evaporator plate acts as a heat deflector and keeps the heat from the defrost heater within the confines of the evaporator itself , hopefully ensuring a full defrost.

Personally , i also think the design of the defrost heater and the tray it sits in leave a lot to be desired . The rear area is angled down and the ice build-up is always above this area where the heater is furthest away from the evaprator .

Wrong machine Smartin. I’d try a total defrost of 48hrs and switch it back on to see how it goes . If the fan/evaporator is iced over , it could be something as simple as the door being left open .
