OK, but some people still hesitate, ie dont ring back, at £55.00, there all cheapskates round here.

The trick I’ve found it to make sure you make them aware how much work it requires.

Cust “Hi, I’d like a quote for installing my integrated washing machine.”
Me “Well, we don’t just do installation, we offer a complete fitting service. We unpack your new machine, commission it and connect it to the water and waste connections. We then level it and drill and reattach the hinges to your cupboard door. Finally, the engineer will demonstrate your new appliance for you, and recycle your old machine and packaging. For all that, we charge £79.”

Yes, it’s hamming it up a bit, but you need to sell yourself. After all, you’re competing with Comet and their inclusive “carpentry work”.

Neff amica And Currys Own Brand The Door Goes Strait back On (no new holes to drill)

Same with Beko/Merloni/Fagor I’ve found, although different positions to Neff.

I charge £80 including door, take someone else and I can normally do it in 30 minutes. Have had one where I walked away, though, absolute PITA with DIY raised floor in front of unit. Paying half for getting the thing in, another half for spending 15 minutes lining up the bloody door with the rest of the (out of line) units.

Seven months of usage and you think it’s good value? So far it’s cost you about £1.35 a wash, I hope you get a bit more out of it than that.

Loose tacho connection? Wires on these tend to break off right on the motor multiplug in my experience.

Much as I’d love to have it in Oxford (could pop out during lunch for a couple of jobs :)) would it maybe be sensible to have it somewhere like Luton, where people from t’north can get cheap flights down? Maybe somewhere a bit more central than Coventry, so that we can go to a pub or something in the evening rather than being stuck in the Hilton.

Is it the assumption that developing nations will have both population growth AND increasing standards of living, when it’s more likely population will grow but they’ll be fighting over increasingly scarce resources, with no impact on overall energy consumption?

It sounds weird and obviously if you have the tool already there’s no point but a spanner makes this belt change dead easy, literally a 10 second job as most of us have 11mm in the toolbox to hand.

One less thing to carry in Oxford, where you often have to walk a few minutes to the house = good thing in my books.

    Re: Belt fitting tool

An alternative to a big screwdriver is to use a 11mm spanner. Open end grips the motor spindle and you can then put the belt over the other end and lever the spanner down, meaning the belt slides easily onto the motor. Find it’s a lot easier this way as the screwdriver can slip around on the motor but the spanner doesn’t.

Always works first time for me and saves some space in the van :).

To be fair, around here there are several multi-million pound houses. Almost all have Zanussi Essential rubbish in them – often with a several £50k+ cars on the drive.

It tends to be the two-up, two-downs where I find and sell the Mieles – people who care about value for money rather than wanting something as cheap as possible.

    Re: Furthest search?

Pretty common for us to get landlords booking calls for tenants from Pakistan or India, due to the number of overseas tenants in Oxford. Charge card in advance, email receipt, jobs done. Australia is still quite a record though – fancy trekking through Oz and suddenly thinking, “You know what, I need to get my washing machine sorted!”. 😆

    Getting their moneysworth ;-).

Have the same with an army barracks I visit which use domestic Zanussis. Constant calls to blocked filters as the machines are on 24/7. Tend to last a few months then bearings go but they still won’t invest in proper commercial machines. Easy money if you don’t mind fishing prophylactics out of pumps :rolls:

    We rent one from Adelante

    http://www.adelante.co.uk/

Costs about £15 per month plus we pay 17p for each debit card and 1.7{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} for credit cards but it’s so much easier – avoids all the “Oh, I haven’t got the money” and means you can get money off landlords easily. I also think we get more new machine sales off it – with the machine, if you BER it you can say, “But if it helps I have a new Bosch in the back of the van, £xxx and you can pay using your card if you like”.

Plus Adelante are very good – I accidentally dropped a washer dryer on mine and cracked the screen – Adelante swapped it free of charge for a new one sent special delivery next day.

Only once had a problem with reception, which was in the middle of nowhere, but if this happens you just call them on your mobile and get a code over the phone to type into the machine. Never normally a problem for me though – mine is on O2 (although you can use Vodaphone as well) and I have lots of jobs out in the countryside.

Re: Hoover HW5513 not heating – heater okay

Yes 70Mohms not normally enough to cause trouble but it’s the only slightly weird thing I could find on the machine – rest of insulation is all >1500Mohms. Clutching at straws a little I guess to find *something* wrong with it as never had a problem with one of these timers before.

The only PCB on this machine only (I think) controls speed for module. Heater wires go through closed circuit stat directly to timer. Checked continuity right to timer connections themselves.

    Thanks for your help 🙂

Re: Miele W504 / Premier 500 door seal.

It’s £37.50 ex VAT + £3.99 delivery at Europart for the genuine seal, but special order. No pattern spare listed. Special order delivery speed with Maddocks can be a bit patchy.

If you want me to order it for you email me chris@oxforddomestic.com and I’ll just order it to be delivered directly to you.
