gandh1 – apply to admin@ukwhitegoods.co.uk for Trade Access, before you get locked out.

LJD – if you can’t advise, please don’t.

MrsB – open the door of the machine and rotate the drum by hand. It should move smoothly and silently. If the action feels rough or rumbly, the bearings will be at fault. Additionally, putting your hand at 12 o’clock inside the drum, try and lift it. Watch the edge of the drum at the 6 o’clock position whilst doing so, relative to the door seal. There should be no apparent movement between the two.

If they have failed, it’s a cow of a job involving removing the front of the machine, the front of the tub, the inner drum and shaft and having a huge amount of fun with a steel bar and a sledge hammer. Very theraputic for anger management. Bit of info on drum bearings HERE.

Bear in mind that this is a budget appliance – a professional repair (I’d be charging you for an hour and a half plus parts) may be only a marginally cost effective repair.

Bail out the water, having removed filters and plug first. Remove the screw in the sump at the 9 o’clock position and lift the cover away. See if the impellor revealed will rotate. Cancel any existing progamme, then start a programme. The drain pump should run and may throw out any foreign body. If it doesn’t, it may be jammed or failed. If it’s failed, you’ll need one of THESE. If you can hear the pump running but it still doesn’t drain check the sink coupling (if applicable.).

Thermistor is an NTC (Negative Temperature Co-efficient) device. It will give a reading in kOhms, which will fall as the device warms up.

Remove lid and left hand side panel. Observe the orange sludge in the fill matrix. When the machine fills from the tank on the back, the water has to run through this softener unit. If it underfills, this is because the softener media has solidified. Use a plastic handled screwdriver and tap the softener unit repeatedly – the media will eventually break up and allow the water through – it should start to behave rather in the manner of a 1980’s sand picture.

    Bizarre, but true…….

Lid motors not shutting the lids properly is a known issue. Tall glasses stopping the lids shutting properly is also a known issue. Lid seals can cause problems, as can split hoses in the back of the machine.

These are a particularly awkward cuss to work on; I would seriously suggest that you get help through a repairer who actually understands the machines.

Our Retail Guru, The Don ( 😀 ) will probably voice an opinion in the morning, no doubt…….. I’m afraid I just fix things and sell ISE machines. They’re something I have faith in.

Bail it out first. Motor should run in two directions, one for circulation and the other for drain. If the motor is running, there may be a blockage past the motor, but more likely the impellor stack has stripped its blades. If it doesn’t run at all, it gets a bit complicated.

You can remove the motor for inspection from the back – remove the metal bar and the motor pulls out to the rear.

THIS is what you should be looking at.

    Stay safe, power off first.

You have a Chinese Haier machine. First three flashing means that the base tray is flooded and the flood protection system is activated. Drag it out, throw some towels down, unplug it, and tip the machine back to drain the tray. If it does it again, you need to find the leak.

Do NOT spend any money trying to repair this appliance. If it repeats the fault, you don’t need an engineer, you need to buy a decent quality machine.

If you suffer from masochistic tendencies, put ‘chinese AND dishwasher’ into the Search facility for this Forum only and prepare to be horrified.

    Welcome aboard, Dave.

Interesting times, eh? There is a place for budget appliances – people will just buy the damn things. I would suggest that so long as you have some “reasonable”, “better” and “best” alternatives available, you can rest easy – it’s up to the customer in the end.

Then they come on here and complain………… 😀

If you’re in the trade, contact admin@ukwhitegoods.co.uk with your business details and ask for trade access. It’s a real eye-opener!
