I would suspect that the base tray under the machine is flooded. There is a float operated flood protection mechanism in the base. If the base floods, it operates the drain pump and over-rides the programming. If left to run for extended periods the drain pump will wear and become noisy.

Pulling the dishwasher (and the plug) out and tipping the machine flat to the floor on one side will drain the water out and reset things. However, if the problem recurs, you will have to find the leak and resolve it. If it’s a straightforward one, you should consider getting the drain pump replaced at the same time.

It’ll have an old, tired drain pump in it. They wear and can become intermittant. One of THESE would be a cheap and sensible investment if you wish to keep the old girl going.

Quote that number and your supplier should be able to order for you.

Check lid switch and out of balance switch for function/corrosion/dodgy wiring. Pump may be out of circuit.

    Two possibilities.

1/ Wiring burnt out into the timer unit. It happens, but isn’t common.
2/ Timer has failed internally. Some sort of board level component failure is entirely possible. Burnt out joints on the timer pcb or power supply failure also possible.

As a repairer, beyond checking for obvious burnt out solder joints, I’d be replacing the timer. If you wish to get into board level repairs, we can’t help you.

Be interested in what you find though…… 😀

To determine the resistance, you have to pass a current through the circuit. This requires volts to drive it.

    Stay safe, unplug it anyway.

Re: Hygena APL8224-1 – problem – is it the timer unit?

It’s the old Brandt machine. IIRC, there are three transfer hoses which run across the bottom of the machine – these are prone to sludging up. Removal and cleaning of the hoses and the spigots may make a difference. Also worth removing the door outer panel and checking for broken wiring at the pivot point.

    Power off first, of course.

This suggests that you have a slow leak somewhere in the machine. Covers off for observation or call for help. Power off before actually touching anyrhing.

Definitely the motor. You could try removing it and cleaning out all traces of carbon dust deposited by the brushes and see if that improves matters, otherwise you will have to replace the drive motor.

    Power off first, of course.
