I would just send the timer away for test/repair. It sounds like stripped teeth on one of the gears.

This reminds me of a job I did a couple of years ago. One day I was offered a Zanussi machine for spares. I collected it then went off to the next call, which turned out to be the same model of Zanussi. I diagnosed this as having a timer fault and offered the customer the secondhand timer from the spares machine. I duly removed the spare timer from the scrap machine and fitted it to the customers appliance and the fault appeared to be cured. When I later stripped the spares machine I found its heater had melted the tub and I could not see any evidence of a problem with the pressure switch system. As always when I fitted the timer, I explained that I cannot test it fully without standing watching the machine for hours so they need to keep an eye on it the first few times they use it. Fortunately the timer behaved itself perfectly.

ParticipantRe: Ebay
I did try selling carbon brushes on there but only sold a couple of sets so I gave up with it. I can’t see it seriously undermining our trade because few people will be able to identify what they need with enough confidence to spend money on parts they can’t send back. My problem with Ebay is Paypal. I am no longer able to accept Paypal payments or purchase items using Paypal. This is because I reached their £500 limit, after which you can only continue if you sign up for Direct Debit. I don’t do DD anyway and I certainly don’t trust Paypal well enough to give them a book of blank cheques. 🙁

Probably the timer.

I could email you a wiring diagram if it’s any help.

Sorry, when you called it a hybrid timer/pcb I assumed you meant the module was fixed to the timer. I just looked up the parts and now see that is not the case. 💡

ParticipantRe: LG Dishwasher LD-12AW2 not filling
Obviously I only work on UK appliances but I don’t suppose your dishwashers are that much different to ours. It is quite standard to have the door switch switching 240 volts, similarly dishwasher inlet valves, wash pumps, drain pumps, heaters, detergent doors etc operate at this voltage. when you say there is also only 66 volts at the door switch, is it a double pole switch and you are measuring between the 2 poles? Perhaps there is a problem with the mains inlet suppressor.

Masterpart gives:
Cold: 92131739
Hot: 92130541The hot one looks like it might be something like the shape you describe.

The solenoid valves should get 240volts to operate. Trace the wires from the valve back to their source. If they go to a PCB there may be a poor connection on the edge connector. If this is OK and the valve is switched by a relay, the relay may have burnt internal contacts or a dry joint where it is soldered in. If one or other wires goes to a pressure switch, this may be the culprit.

ParticipantRe: Best Van to buy?
I just bought a Fiat Doblo, although it’s not new. They do it with a new 16 valve multijet diesel which is supposed to be the bees knees on fuel economy but also still manages 70bhp. I’ve only had mine a few weeks but I have had one problem, the passenger side windscreen wiper balljoint keeps popping out of its socket. The Doblo is made in Turkey though, which is not exactly confidence inspiring.

ParticipantRe: Servis appliance in warranty?
A colleage showed me a Servis machine today that had been scrapped after 8 weeks use, due to a wrecked drum. Apparently the customer had taken the back off and was told that they had thereby invalidated the warranty. The most stupid part about it though is that the customer went out and bought another identical machine! :clown:

ParticipantRe: Electrical Safety & Legal Legislation
Yes, this also brings in the question of Part P. Can you charge for tests on someones electrical installation if your firm is not a member of an approved body re. Part P?

ParticipantRe: Electrical Safety & Legal Legislation
It seems to me to be beyond the call of duty to investigate the earth continuity of the house wiring and I can see no way that an appliance repairer can be held responsible for defects in the house wiring. The tests on the appliance itself should be adequate to ensure the metal parts of the appliance do not become live.

ParticipantRe: Electrical Safety & Legal Legislation
Fine sentiments Bob but in practice regulation will probably mean a fat subscription to some trade association just for the privilege for having the required letters after your name. This seems to be what’s happened with the Part P Building Regs, which fortunately don’t apply in Scotland (yet). I would be happy enough to get extra qualifications but if I also have to pay £1000+ a year to some fat cats in London I will be pulling out of the appliance repair trade.
