Usually an easy job on Whirlpool as the cabinet front comes off.

No, that’s not what I meant. I always return the faulty board when I purchase a recon. board but they also ask you to send any surplus boards which they will buy from you. If I lived near their premises I could take in a heap of stuff like that.

Just had my first call of the day. We were sorting out an appointment and the woman asks “Do you have a call-out charge?”
I answer “Yes, whereabouts are you?”
She replies “Newton Mearns” which is Glasgow area. I keep getting calls for jobs in Glasgow, Paisley etc but the people are always vague about where they got my number :rolls:

Try doing an extra rinse & spin cycle to see if it makes a difference. It could be you have a partially blocked filter and it’s not draining fully between rinses. If your machine has a super rinse or higher water level facility you can also try that.

I’ve never sent spare boards in for credit as I assumed the postage / delivery would cost more than I would get back.

    Re: Hotpoint WF740T door squeak

It’s probably not the door itself. When you press on the door you might be moving the drum inwards slightly. The outer drum hangs from 2 springs, you could try a bit of grease on the ends where they hook onto the cabinet. With the lid off (plug out first) you may be able to shake the outer drum about to reproduce the sound and trace it that way. On these machines you often get squeaking noises from the drive belt.

Whatever floats your boat I suppose but they seem to command very high prices for an ordinary ’60s / ’70s rotbox. I prefer something with a bit more shape like the Consul Classic:

Yes, hardly had a call this week. I’ve got loads of jobs to do outside at home but the weather is lousy. 🙁

If you already have a new one to replace it you can screw in a couple of self tappers and pull on them.

I dare say the Masterpart terms & conditions “do not affect your statutory rights”. I wonder what those are?

I would have thought it best to approach independent shops who only sell new appliances but get asked to take away old ones. A chap near here has such deals and gets more machines than he can cope with so a lot go straight to the scrap metal firms.

Re: Bearing replacement on Zanussi FJS1397W

I would say it is well worth doing as your old machine is much better than any of the £200 appliances on the market. It is not too bad a job as the Zanussi is quite well engineered and parts go back together easily. Basically you remove the rear cabinet half, remove the motor and rear counterweight, disconnect the hoses (I tend to leave the Jetsystem hose connected to the door seal but just unclip it from the cabinet to give enough slack) and shock absorbers from the tub, lift the springs off the top chassis panel and remove the tub, remove the screws and seperate the halves of the tub, remove the rear pulley, knock through the shaft to remove the inner drum, drift out the old bearings and drift or press in the new ones.

It should not be a difficult one. The front concrete weight is similar to the Hotpoint WMA machines rather than a complete ring.

I always re-use the joint seal but I run a bead of silicone sealer round it just to make sure it seals properly.
