    Re: Miele S5260 Vac

Normally on Miele the main top half is held with 7 screws, some being hidden by the small rear panel which incorporates the on off button and cord retract button. This panel is held by one screw and 2 clips. You should be able to release these clips by poking a flat screwdriver down at the rear corners of the 2 buttons where they meet the panel itself.

You need to remove the whole pump / filter assembly and check for bra wires etc. If there’s nothing poking out of the hose connections you can then remove the pump itself to investigate.

Another thought! The White ceramic resistors on the servis modules used to be a problem with going o/c but I don’t think they were anything other than ordinary wirewounds. :hmm:

I think those are just droppers, used instead of a mains transformer to get a low voltage for the electronics. They are much higher resistance.

Strange people, these vintage washer collectors :rolls: I see there’s another U tube video of someone loading clothes into a Keymatic whilst it’s washing and slopping out soapy water. You would think if the thing has survived this long they would treat it with more respect.

If one arm of the spider is cracked you won’t feel anything when turning / lifting the drum, as the crack only opens up with centrifugal (or more correctly centripetal) force when spinning fast. Only way to confirm this is a strip down. 🙁

The Hotpoint ones are quite cheap but I was thinking they might also fit the Zanussi spiders which are at least twice the price.

Why not just carry a universal mains filter with you when going to any likely jobs i.e. machine dead, burning smells, went off with a bang etc etc.?

Yes, I find with the Indesco brushes you often have to discard the new plastic cases and re-use the original ones which are slightly different. With the Hotpoint FHP motors you can renew just the carbons as they use the Bosch type tag fitment in the holder.

Yes the tiny plastic gears in the lid tend to strip their teeth.

    Bill 🙁

I had forgotten all about this until an email came from Bill a few weeks ago. I had to drive down south to visit my seriously ill mother so I picked up the spares at Bills place on the way down. I didn’t know how much to expect but the back of my little Vauxhall Combo van was full to bursting by the time we had them all loaded! There was some fridge stuff which was of no use to me but I gave a load of that to a repair firm near my mothers place in Nuneaton. I still have to sort through some of the spares as a lot was boxed in terms of make whereas I sort my spares in terms of function (valves, pumps, heaters etc etc.).
Thanks Bill and I wish you a long and enjoyable retirement.

If it’s a 3 phase machine it could perhaps be the motor earth wire but that normally goes to the mains filter.

Take the motor off and have a look at the back end. There is a device called a tacho, a round magnet on the motor shaft with a coil round it mounted to the motor casing. Sometimes the magnet breaks or comes loose or the fine windings in the coil get broken.

    Re: Zanussi clutch pulley

I know they were good machines but buying a new motor seems well OTT an such an old machine. If you do need to scrap the machine you may be able to sell the spare motor as it may also fit later models. It is a drawback with special orders that they can’t be returned.

    Re: Second hand parts

If there is a local shop that sells reconditioned machines you may well find they also sell secondhand spares.
