    Re: Zanussi ZWF1441W

I went to an integrated Indesit last week with the same problem. I just left the ball out as there was no obvious way to prevent it happening again. Perhaps something to do with the house plumbing. I wish more machines were plumbed to standpipes rather than those wretched sink trap adapters.

Not familiar with that model but some have a switch that cuts out the heat when you open the door.

Ah, I had forgotten about your one, Mike. Perhaps that’s the one I used this time. As far as I recall the last one in 2006, the new board from Connect also smoked and the machine was scrapped, hence I still have that board.

Perhaps a good time to undercut them and advertise: “Integrated appliances installed for only £–.–“

I suggest you read through it then decide if you want to go ahead. I decided against as it appeared that I was being told how to run my business.

I was loading the latest version of MSN Messenger the other day on the Sony Vaio Vista laptop and it happened to show how much hard disc is used. The 250GB drive is more than half full already and I’ve not used it much 😯 The desktop was only 40GB and that was also only about half full. I’m therefore guessing that Vista itself needs about 100GB :rolls:

They may have chosen not to receive email notification of PMs in which case they will only know if they visit the site. If they have a pop-up blocker they might still not notice unless they look at the forum menus.

It is either bearings or a cracked arm in the drum support spider. From what you say I would think it most likely the spider, Part No. 41001233.

Have you cleaned out the syphon in the drawer itself?

    Re: The Other Engineer

Yes, I would judge more by the evidence of poor workmanship you see when you examine a machine. For example, on Hotpoint WMA machines, the bundles of wires going to the tub can rub on the front weight if not correctly secured. When I’m dismantling for a bearing job I put a peice of tape round the wires at each cable tie point before cutting the ties. This keeps the bundles together and ensures they go back in the same place as before. I’ve worked on machines that have already had bearing jobs under extended warranty or whatever, with these wires tied up any old way and showing damage from contact with the concrete.

    Re: The Other Engineer

I agree with your main points but would like to point out that the UKW trade members are a bunch of angels compared with those on some other advice sites. On some of the sites, individuals are more interested in scoring points against one another than giving advice. Sparkies seem to be the worst lot as the I.E.E. regs seem to have become so complex and they each have their own interpretation.
I suppose those of us who are sole traders and don’t do work for manufacturers, insurance companies etc, are bound to take a dim view of some of the wasteful practices described, as our customers would not be willing to pay for several major parts replaced all at once.
There are a few people on here who could use a bit more diplomacy when contradicting previous advice on the public forums. By and large though, as I said before, UKW works much better than a lot of advice forum sites.

Re: Zanussi motor armature – I want to buy

The armature is not available new, you have to buy the complete motor. Similarly, most people who sell secondhand parts would want to sell you a complete motor. You could try Ebay or ask in any shops that sell reconditioned appliances.

Re: Whirlpool AWM 6163 motor / tacho fault?

Did you get my PM? The parts I have look the same as the ones in your photos so might be worth a try. You need to check if the motor is sparking a lot at maximum spin speed. If it is, you have shorted turns in the armature and the motor is scrap.
