    Re: Jury Duty

I bet most of us on here are willing enough to go on holiday and leave our customers to wait or find someone else. It can sometimes actually help your reputation if they get somoene who does a bad job or is more expensive. I’ve never been asked but I would be happy enough to do jury duty.

I found the problem. I had fitted the lower casing 180 degrees out of position. This allowed the foam ring that surrounds the motor to get blown out of place. I think the dust was from this foam.

Have you looked through the fault codes thread on this forum? Yes it does sound like a fault on the module. If it’s already had a new motor it looks like even a recon. board would bring your bill into BER territory. 🙁

Single phase is converted to three phase within the machine. I assume it allows them to manage faster spin speeds than with a single phase brushless motor.

    Re: Whirlpool motors

The numbers marked on motors are not the numbers used by Whirlpool or the spares suppliers so there is no cross reference to model numbers. Generally speaking, if both have the same pitch grooves on the pulley and both have the same multi pin socket they should be interchangable. There might be a difference in spin speed between them. Motors sometimes have a spin speed marked on them but it will be the maximum motor speed, not the drum speed.

With average use of say one wash a day I would expect a German made AEG to last at least 20 years. If you bought a new Indesit today you would be lucky to get more than 5 years.

A new washer dryer of comparable quality would cost several hundred pounds more than most repair jobs you might need on the AEG so I would recommend you get someone to look at it. If you buy a new AEG machine it will probably be of inferior quality to your current model.

Yes, these days we are encouraged to switch things off when not in use but they make machines with no proper On/Off switch so they are always in a sort of “standby” mode. The domestic appliance industry does pay lip service to energy conservation in the design of wash programmes etc but the overall impact of their activities is doing little to postpone the demise of our planet.

    Re: hotpoint wt761g no spin

Might be a problem with the pressure switch or associated parts. This is a round device mounted near the top of the machine with a thin hose going to a pressure vessel. You could try pulling this hose off the switch and running a spin like that. Remember to refit the hose after this check and make sure the plug is out when delving into the innards of the machine. If it spins OK with the hose removed you have a choked pressure vessel or blocked pressure hose.

Is this an American made machine? European ones use metric. Snap-On do a socket:

Not sure what’s going on with them. The other day I tried to order a dozen different parts and about 9 were out of stock. One was one of their own pattern bearing kits for a Zanussi and it was listed as “Price on Application”. 😕
