ParticipantRe: Avatar gone astray
Martins avatar keeps adding extra washing to the machine without ever removing the last lot. It reminds me of the bloke who had been told to put on a clean pair of socks each day but by the end of the week couldn’t get his shoes on. 😆

If you are very lucky it might just be an internal fuse blown. If it needs new modules it is likely BER.

Perhaps ISE will learn lessons from this. As I see it, the main one is to try to keep a comprehensive range of spares for all models at all times. If you want to be better than the likes of Hotpoint and Electrolux you need to go the extra mile.

ParticipantRe: Scrap Stainless
That’s not entirely true. Not all stainless steel in appliances is ferritic, try a magnet on a dishwasher inside door panel. Also that’s nonsense about having to avoid scratches. Brushed stainless is a finish made up entirely of scratches. The oxide layer is easily damaged but quickly forms new oxide and the minute thickness of the protective layer means you can damage it thousands of times before the material gets significantly thinner.

ParticipantRe: zanussi zwd147s tub seal seems an odd one
I always re-use the original with a bead of silicone sealant to make sure it seals. If you know anywhere locally that does reconditioned machines you should be able to scrounge some screws. If you can’t get any you can send me a PM and I could post some to you.

Yes, that’s not at all bad considering most of the weight is concrete. I used to take machines myself but never got anything for them. I don’t risk it these days as I don’t have a waste licence.

ParticipantRe: Loose Bearing Insert
I have told the customer it’s BER. Apparently I changed the tub once before on this same machine but I can’t remember why.

ParticipantRe: Clever dicky or not???
I never saw it but I had one customer who claimed the timer had gone on his washing machine so he wired up four 13 amp plugs to it, one for the motor, one for the water valve, one for the heater and one for the pump. He didn’t explain how he controlled the motor speed or direction. :rolls:

ParticipantRe: Beko skipping spin.
Yes, those timers do fail with those symptoms. IIRC a couple of the wires are hard wired in to the loom so you have to solder them.

ParticipantRe: Loose Bearing Insert
The marks in this case were rusty and the front bearing had collapsed. At least scrapping this one will give me a donor heater I need for another machine I’m building for myself.

Fine until the blade explodes and embeds chunks of itself in your head 😯

ParticipantRe: Trusting soul or what?
I get that sort of thing all the time. Some houses I’ve been in half a dozen times over the years but always had to let myself in. With one holiday home I actually kept the key for about 2 months until they paid an outstanding bill. 😆

ParticipantRe: Bosch pcb repair?
I just pronounced BER on a Bosch tumble dryer as the module is £203 + VAT trade from Connect. I don’t know if QER do repairs on the dryer modules but in any case I’m still in dispute with them over a job they did years ago. 🙁

ParticipantRe: Online Tax Return
Thanks for the replies. I rang the IR helpline and apparently the normal form can be used unless you get a regular income from the deceased persons estate. I’ve now submitted my return but was not impressed with the software. I lost track of the number of “404 error” messages I got and it is often counter intuitive in terms of the format required. I didn’t know if you are supposed to round up / down to whole pounds like you do on the paper form.

ParticipantRe: Dyson handheld vacume cleaner
I’m surprised anyone in the trade would give houseroom to a Dyson product! I would go for a Hoover Dustette, the older the better. Those things just seem to go on forever.
