Sounds like Electrue, now known as Connect Distribution. They are probably the biggest spares supplier but most of us have mixed feelings toward them. I’m not aware of any major suppliers in Scotland and virtually all my new spares come up from England.

You need to take the brushes out to check them before ordering new ones. They are fully worn worn when there is about 6mm of carbon protruding from the metal sleeve. If they are not fully worn and the motor is sparking excessively you will need a new motor.

    As always, unplug first :zap:
Release door seal from front of cabinet
Remove lid and rear half of cabinet
Remove motor, drum pulley and rear counterweight
    Disconnect all hoses from tub
Insert a 13mm ring spanner or socket over the pointed ends of the shock absorber upper retaining pins and pull on the hex ends of the pins to release the shock absorbers
With a flat blade screwdriver prise up the hook of each top suspension spring and insert a length of wire round the hook. Now use the wires to lift the springs out of the cabinet crossmember and lower the tub down onto the base of the machine
    Dismantle the tub
Temporarily refit the drum pulley bolt and tap with a mallet or drift to knock the drum shaft out of the bearings
With drum removed drift out the old bearings and press/drift in the new ones
Check the bronze bush and steel drum shaft for damage, if in any doubt, renew the drum support spider
Either renew the tub joint seal or put a bead of silicone sealer round it before assembling the tub

    Re: same amount

My basic charge covers the first hour of work then I charge an hourly rate for additional time. Exceptions to this include bearing jobs for which I tend to have fixed prices according to the type of machine. I suppose it depends on how you split up your day, if you have to schedule in less calls in a day because one customer has several appliances to be looked at you need to charge enough to end up with the same total labour income.

Ah, looks like I was probably near enough either way. The Kg to Newton conversion is about 9.8 hence the slight difference. Thanks.

Yes, do you remember the Indesits with the handle at a funny angle, above the centre line of the door? I once tried to fit a replacement secondhand door to one of those but my door would not fit. It seems they made 2 versions of that door with slightly different odd angles of handle :rolls:

Re: Hotpoint E6005 Hob – touch control problems

You should be able to tell by the price if it’s an induction hob, they are a lot more expensive. I think you do have a normal ceramic hob but perhaps the instructions cover a range of models. I suggest you contact Hotpoint regarding the touch control sensitivity as it should be rectified under warranty.

If it’s digital it’s 082832100. There is a different one that is mechanical but not sure of the part number for that one.

Re: How to Change Belt on Hotpoint VTD00?

Yes, on these it is usually easiest to remove the screws that secure the back, pull the drum back enough to create a big enough gap at the front to slip the belt over then position the belt on the witness mark where the old belt ran. I find you can improvise the special tool using some stiff tubing such as steel electrical conduit. Put the tube between belt and drum, poke the end of the tube over the end of the motor spindle, lever the tube down so it’s in line with the spindle then work the belt along to the end of the tube. Withdraw the tube, holding the belt so it drops onto the vee grooves of the spindle.

I’m not glad they are around. A lot of customers would take the attitude “once bitten, twice shy” and simply buy a new appliance or put up with the fault in the case of cooker doors etc.

Those were the days! There are not many of those simple little boards around now. 😥
