    Re: bendix

I would suspect burnt contacts on a relay for the direction change on the main board. Given the price of these boards I would be looking to identify the relay and replace it. You could send the board to one of the repair firms but I’ve had a few bad experiences going down that route.

There is an aftermarket bearing kit available for Beko machines, Electruepart BRG9107 but unfortunately the supplier does not list which models it will fit.

Part Number is 09088436. Best thing to do is make an inquiry with the spares shop at this site as they have access to various suppliers.

There is a lot more job satisfaction though when working on something properly made that you feel is worth repairing.

I changed a belt on a Creda Compact 4 the other week. The machine was at least 25 years old and it was it’s first repair.

Re: Whirlpool Generation 2000+ G2P62F/SS/01 thermostat prob?

It looks as though this oven has an electronic sensor instead of a normal capillary thermostat. Inside the oven this would look like a short length of pipe, squashed at the end, mounted on a rectangular plate screwed to the oven. To replace it you would also need access to the wires inside by removing the oven and taking off the back.
Part No. of this sensor is 481921078097.

    Re: Disposing of old appliances

It looks like it will become increasingly tempting to go out late at night to a remote country lane and chuck scrap appliances in a ditch. Taking a van load of scrap washing machines to the scrap metal merchant used to be called recycling, now it’s a criminal offence. 👿

    Re: Renting Appliances

I would have thought the ISE machines should be a good choice for this if the claims about low spares prices are true. If people are renting something they won’t be as careful as if they had bought it so the appliances will get a hard life. You will tend to get the type of customer who claims to get through machines at a rate of 2 a year, although they won’t mention that when signing the contract!
It might be worth talking to the agencies that arrange housing for the migrant workers. Here they tend to buy secondhand machines but then they have to dispose of them again at the end of the workers fixed term contract. They may find it easier to rent machines but I suppose you would have to keep moving them around as the contracts are often only for 6 months.

    Re: Ebay gem!

I have a customer who teaches pottery so I regularly have to fit new elements in her kilns. She just rang me asking me to check over her new (used) kiln as it keeps blowing fuses. The seller assured her it runs off a normal 13 amp supply. I asked her to go and see if there’s a plate on the side with a kilowatt rating. She came back and says it’s 5.5 kilowatt! :rolls:
I still get a job out of it though as I now have to wire up a suitable supply for it.

Re: Hotpoint WMA74 – Motor jumping into spin

You could check the continuity of the tacho coil connections at the board. Other than that it could be the motor speed triac short circuited. If you have a board with the same triac you could try changing it or at least compare in-circuit resistance readings with a known good triac.

electrofix wrote: they can either be on three legs with a blob on the end or more common these days is to surface mount them directly to the board.

these are easily available for main electronic suppliers or pinch one from an old board thet you have lying around

    hope this helps

    Dave

Are you able to renew the surface mount ones without any special equipment? I’ve never tried that but I should think you need a very steady hand with the iron and some decent tweezers!

Yes there should be 3 earth wires, one to the motor, one to the heater element and one to the bearing housing.

Some ovens have a cylindrical fan at the top that carries on running as it cools down, could it be that?
