Re: LG WM1433 Washing Machine Module

I did reply to this earlier but my post has disappeared 😕 I suggested fitting a new capacitor. I know it’s buried in silicone but it could still be done.

Yes, I’ve never tried mixing and matching like that. Up here in the fishing villages it is often sand that kills pumps by getting in the bearings so a rotor swap would not do in those cases. I suppose if it’s just the impeller broken off though……

Can’t you dig the capacitor out of the silicone and solder in a new one?

The installation looks new. As an aside, do you have all the appropriate electrical certification in accordance with with Building Regulation Part P? You may need to go back to the installer.

    Regards

There is no Part P in Scotland. In any case, the fused spur mounted in the kitchen which supplies the cord outlet in the bathroom was there already as there was a wall mounted radiant heater there before.

If the heater can’t be mounted at the top I would like to know the reason. I suppose it could be that with any radiator there is a risk of air build up at the top so you can’t guarantee total immersion of the element at all times. This can’t happen with a cylinder immersion heater as hot water can only come out of the top when cold water enters at the bottom to replace it.

The LG direct drive machines have a brushless motor but also have the advantage that there’s no belt to break or fall off.

Re: The Green Mile…How Do You Avoid Death by Electrocution

I frequent a vintage radio forum site and there was a similar personal safety thread on there. This is one of their posts:
“For over 50 years I have expected and got electric shocks pretty well every day, the only potentially fatal ones are from mains derived high voltages such as mains EHT transformers and nowadays microwave cooker transformers. The worst shock I have ever had was from the anodes of the the PA valves on my FT101ZD.

The many hundreds or maybe thousands of shocks I have had from the mains have only involved momentary contact and have been at worst unpleasant, shocks from TV EHT sting a bit but the 25 or so Kv rapidly drops to very little and is not generally dangerous unless you have a health problem.

The 3 kv or so of pulsed DC from the top caps of TV line output valves burns a bit but does no lasting harm.

Your automatic reaction is to withdraw your hand, and that often causes far more injury than the shock, what you really have to be careful about putting yourself in a situation where you can’t disconnect yourself from the current source, but that’s just down to common sense, isn’t it? “

I found the remains of the one I tried to butcher to remove the extension bit:

Re: Arsiton water valve screw on adapter A1535

I don’t know what model the valve I had came from as it was from a colleague who breaks up machines and just mixes all the valves together. I didn’t actually notice the extension piece until I came to try and fit it to a machine that needed the shorter version of valve.
I just tried to look up the variations of these valves. It gets complicated though as there are single, double and triple; spade terminals and 2 way sockets as well as the extended and non extended variants. I came up with one type, C00143590 listed by Masterpart but with no photo so I can’t tell if that’s the one. 😕

Re: Whats the most annoying thing customers do?

For the last few weeks I get loads of calls that stop ringing just before I get to the phone. I suppose it’s people who don’t want to let the answering machine kick in. They are local numbers so it is probably customers. At one time I would have rung them back but these days I can’t be bothered chasing customers who have already irritated me!

I know the bit you mean as I had the opposite problem. It was in the bad weather last winter and I was trying to replace a valve split by frost damage. I got hold of a secondhand one which had the extension part you mention. I tried to remove it but it must somehow have been welded to the main valve moulding. Your only option will be a complete new valve assembly.

    Re: connect ?

You often get that sort of thing. They buy the Electrue brand parts at the best price they can find so it that happens to be the genuine one that’s what you get. It could also be down to what quantity discounts they negotiate. If they increase the quantity of genuine spares they order they can perhaps get a better bulk order discount compared to splitting the order between the machine manufacturer and the pattern spares manufacturer.
