So you won’t be taking a complete drum assembly there on your pushbike then? That would have been entertaining to watch 😆

Sounds like a lost cause to me. If you try to drill out the broken bits the surrounding plastic will likely melt and you will end up at best enlarging the screw holes.

ParticipantRe: ‘kin useless call centre
Remember though, if you worked for yourself there might be days with no calls and hence no wages. Gues how I know? 😆

ParticipantRe: Near death experience.
I think I would prefer a manual transmission in such situations. Come to think of it, I don’t know of any situation when I would not prefer manual 😈

Customer didn’t say but I assumed it was turning but not heating.

It would be interesting to know what it costs to manufacture some of these parts e.g. Hotpoint Hinge bearing 1603031, Connect price £2.48/pair. I charge the customer £3/pair for these and take 9 pence profit but still feel I’m ripping them off. 🙁

Mine is too boring to mention but I’m fido on most forum sites, including Practical Classics.

ParticipantRe: Part P effect?
Part P will not deter the cowboys but some highly experienced, fully qualified tradesmen are forced to either give up or operate illegally. This is due to the high cost of joining an approved trade association. If you are semi-retired or doing sparky work as a small part of another trade e.g. kitchen fitting, the costs involved with Part P are prohibitive.

ParticipantRe: How Busy Are We
Up here there seems to be very little money about, a typical job today serves as an example: Hotpoint WM64, went to fit new door hinge and hinge bearing, noticed a tear in the door seal, I got paid for the door repair but have to go back another time to do the seal as customer can’t afford the extra £18 for a seal just now.

ParticipantRe: DVD Player
Nothing useful in the moaners annual and no obvious manual release. I looked at taking the lid off but there’s a tamperproof label I would have to break. The machine came from Argos who offer a 30 day no quibble exchange service so I will take it back to the shop. I will lose my CD but I’m not bothered about that.

ParticipantRe: Staggering Really
I’m sure you don’t have to pay the minimum wage to a trainee. A friend of mine went down to Dorking to train as a hairdresser and he was on something like £2.50 / hour. He had to give it up and come back to Scotland before completing the course as his girlfriend moved out and he could not afford the rent on their flat on his own.
