ParticipantRe: should have found site sooner
I hope bendaireboy doesn’t mean it when he refers to himself as inane 😯 . Presumably he thinks he’s insane like the rest of us. 😆
By the way I’m not new to the site but I’ve never figured out how you include an exerpt from somebody’s post into your reply with the heading: ‘xxxxx wrote:’
Can somebody enlighten me please?roly16
ParticipantRe: Not the advice I wanted
If anybody is interested they lived in the farm right at the bottom of Pavement Lane Mobberley. Can’t remember the name though unfortunately; it was about 13 years ago.

ParticipantRe: Not the advice I wanted
Years ago we took a customer’s chest freezer into the workshop for a compressor change. When my engineers delivered it back [yes, I employed engineers in those days] he refused to pay 😥 because there was a dent in one corner which he said we had caused, which we hadn’t. 👿 He claimed he’ d been standing in front of the van & watched from underneath while the guys were unloading it out of the back and saw them drop it! 😆
So the rule here is : whenever you’re unloading a machine make sure the customer isn’t lying in the road in front of the van, or standing 200yards away to be able to see the ground behind the van from the front! 😯roly16
ParticipantRe: Hotpoint brushes – laminated vs thin.
I was told by a third party so I can’t vouch for the veracity of the story that an engineer in Manchester used to save up his old Hotpoint brushes in holders and when he got a large collection he spent an evening taking out the worn carbons and fitting new ones [I think they were SD19s] in them.
Not something I’ve ever tried or would bother doing but just perhaps he’s got a point. If you’re going to sit and watch Corrie you might as well earn some money at the same time. If you’re doing 100 or 50 it adds up to quite a lot of saving . Whether they last as long as genuine replacements I don’t know.
Anybody any experience of this?roly16
ParticipantRe: HOMARK COMPACT SE4400 DISHWASHER
Thanks Dave, I stand corrected.
The 0845 no. is a local call, but if you’re on a flat -rate monthly tariff like BT Option 3 all calls on ordinary numbers like MFI’s 01603 are free, but 0845 calls are still chargeable. Geoff

I think NWAR meant Caremark Spares on 01942 840840 not MFI Extracare for Homark Spares.
By the way Extracare Spares can be reached on 01603 630256; you don’t have to ring them on the 08 number.roly16

Reaper,
One of the parts you will need is sure to be 481241818341, cover plate. This is held in by 4 screws and is a common part for the lugs breaking. If you pm me your email add I’ll attempt to send you the diagram tonight to identify the other part. This is a whirlpool machine; you can order the parts from whereever you get those from.

ParticipantRe: AAAAAaaaaarrrrgggghhh!!!!!!!Zanussi door seal.
LEGSTHE DIVER WROTE:If you fold the door gasket inside the inner drum, you can then use Mole-grips at the 12 O’clock position to clamp the spring into the gasket groove.
I use 2 of those black plastic spring clamps with plastic jaws; they do the same job as Molegrips without the risk of piercing the rubber.

I never changed over from the black brushes because of the number of split laminated ones I found.

ParticipantRe: TDS DVD
I found the same as Jim, namely that the dvd wouldn’t work with the latest Acrobat download. I had to delete it and re-install an earlier version from a disk which luckily I had kept. I meant to speak to the TDS technical guy but have never got round to it. Geoff

ParticipantRe: Servis appliance in warranty?
Phidom is probably about right regarding the true age of the machine. Years ago I used to buy a lot of second hand appliances through Loot. If you look in Loot you’ll find every appliance for sale is 18mths to 2 yrs old! I found the rule of thumb was always to double the age they said it was and add 2-3 years. I once went to look at a Tricity President cooker stated to be six months old. It was one of the old chrome & black ones; at least 13 years old!

Ah! Use the dilute detergent solution on the machine. For a minute there I thought you meant replace my blood with it. 🙄 Thanks for that tip Wilf. I think I’m pretty well genned up for this job now.
One point that I don’t think anybody’s mentioned is that on the washer dryers the job’s easier if you remove the front section of the air ducting first – the piece that fits into the seal. It’s only held in place by 2 or 3 screws. 🙂

ParticipantRe: Fitting Zanussi door seals
I haven’t got any blood left. 😥 I’ve sweated some of it getting integrated machines in and out 🙁 and some more slicing my hands on the razor sharp edges of machine panels 🙁 and the rest being bled dry by Mr Brown. 😥

Yes that’s the one, thanks Keith.
Take the tub out? No, that doesn’t take long enough. I’m going to get up at 4 o’clock tomorrow morning to make up one of Clive’s special tools.I use the same method that one or two other people mentioned, namely the strong plastic hand clamps to hold the spring on the seal at one or two points round the drum as you go round with the spring. But it’s always useful getting ideas from other people as well. My one on Thursday is a WJS1397; not sure if there’s going to be enough room to get the clamp arm in on that model. From memory there didn’t seem to be much of a gap between seal and block.
