First thing to check is the door seal sealing correctly.

    Happy Birthday.

Have a great Day you deserve it for all the work you put in to the WTA / UKWhitegoods it helps so many people.

I can recommend retirement and I expect Jim would second that.

    See you in February.

    Cheers

It’s most likely the compressor has failed not pumping worn out.
Or the system has a leak and lost the refrigerant.
So you are correct most likely BER if 9 years old

It could be the heater, thermal fuse or the sensor.

The fuse is easy to test it has the red and black wires.

Test it like any fuse to see if you have a circuit.

If you have it’s the sensor or heater.

With the sensor to test it you have to check resistance and temperature, so as the sensor is not expensive try a new sensor first before buying a heater if the fuse is ok.

Hard to get trained engineers now as most have retired or nearing retirement age.

    I would certainly recommend retirement.

Great just sitting relaxing in this weather.

    Re: thermostat connections

Take care not to put too much stress on the pipe work when you pull the evaporator forward as if you damage the evaporator or pipe work you will loose the refrigerant then the cost to repair would be beyond economical repair.

If you move it forward carefully it should not cause a problem.

    Re: thermostat connections

The sensor tube should be attached to the evaporator it should have a clip or slot behind the evaporator to attach it.

If it is not attached to the evaporator the tube / thermostat will not get cold enough to turn the fridge off.

Re: condenser fan not working properly

Probably needs a new fan but you could try spraying some WD40 on it to see if it helps.

    Re: thermostat connections

In your case with only 2 wires connected to a stat the compressor would always be attached to number 4. ( Black ).

Then brown would always be connected to 3 or six.

6 is normally permanent live to run the light. And 3 is normally the switched terminal between 3 & 4. So the brown in your case would fit on 3 or six depending how the machine is wired.

If the stat is in the off position with the mains on and the compressor runs with the brown on 3 then you would have to swop the brown to six.

From your description it sounds like the compressor has seized.

    Not a DIY repair.

    Re: thermostat connections

Brown wire to terminal 3 black wire to terminal 4.

With the thermostat turned to the off position turn on the mains power and the compressor should not run.

Turn the stat on if the compressor runs then this should then work ok.

Re: Smeg fridge not cooling (freezer working)

If the fridge compressor is cold then it is most likely the fridge thermostat.

If the compressor for the fridge is hot then it would be the compressor or refrigerant fault.

    Re: MAYTAG WATER FILTER

I no longer have any of the manuals now but I don’t think the MAYTAG’s had warning indicators for the filters.

You could P.M. Brian R600a as he might have the details.

It’s surprising once you retire how quick you forget all the info when you are not fixing fridges everyday.

It’s great being retired but it’s surprising how little spare time you have to get on with jobs around the house as every day is like a holiday.

I still went to the meeting last time as it was just good to meet up with everybody.

Providing my wife has not booked in any time away when the next meeting is on, I will be there.

    Definitely recommend retirement.

It seamed strange at first but after the first couple of months you wonder how you had time to work.

I have been retired for 18 months now and the time has gone so quick.

Hope to see you at the next meeting in February.

    Cheers

    Re: Samsung American

No need to break into the system with a service kit it just cheaper than buying separate components.

You just remove the heater, sensor etc from the new evaporator and fit them to the old evaporator on the appliance.
