ParticipantRe: AristonAIB 16
does it spin ie. do a reset and select spin to see if motor is working. again with pump only, not too sure on this model but most fill on 1 valve and then pause for few seconds and then the other valve long shot its not giving up on second valve another thing check out thermister and heater and heater wiring close to heater iv had a few with breaks near heater
also if brushes are very low this causes problems normally no fault code just sits there sort of thinking but confused and cant think of a fault code to throw at you
other than that its a lump hammer

ParticipantRe: Hotpoint Washer/Dryer WD51
go for wiring on this one, put a megger on earth and combined live and neutral and start by snipping all cable ties to machine, press and hold down megger test button move wiring from side to side and run your fingers through the wiring you will know when you have found the dodgy wire! megger with fluctuate and also what i can only discribe as a sort of sixth sense feeling will tell you, you found the wire!! 😯 😯 😯

ParticipantRe: Hotpoint / Creda tumble dryers not heating
hi all,
i have the same trouble, if i go back to one usually with a week or two, i will express they have to use half heat setting only as i only replace them once and tell them its a design fault, i think its human nature to check to see if the clothes are dry, i think 9 out of 10 people dont know this can cause overheat

ParticipantRe: employment with merloni
i worked as employed for merloni it was my first job after re-training in this field had done other types of work before now, sent my c.v off to all manufacturers for employment with no experience, had very little training just college course, had an interview with area manager, who asked me have i ever fixed a washing machine of course i said yes so he offered me the job, i thought i was going to get some form of training, then i discovered i was being sent out with an engineer for 2 weeks only!!!!!!!!!!, yes 2 weeks!!!!!!! after this time i was sent on the road with toolbox in hand with 2 jobs per day, oh you might say not to bad really, then 2 weeks later guess what? 10 jobs on laptop, i think if i remember i nearly had a panic attack, when i phoned area manager he said and i quote every one else has to do it
at the time before takeover from hotpoint the area manager had to deal with a vast area and had a lot of engineers to contend with, probably to much on there plate.
i was not that surprised to read about the engineer who hanged himself, they treat there employees and that goes for self-employed engineers as well like sh**t, my perception was that if an engineer could cut corners and do as many jobs as humanly possible ie 15 jobs per day or more they would turn a blind eye to anything they got up to, plus big rewards, only if the engineer had a good patch as i know of some that covered 30-50 mile radius and made no money only got grief in the ear.

thanks martin going back tomorrow, not to sure if you strip it down from front or from back and remove drum or slide it back to gain access to front, did not have a good look when i was there, think i’ll take into the garden and close the door even if its pi**ing it down, maybe take my fishing umbrella and work one handed.

ParticipantRe: hotpoint wma42n
prob. neutral missing from lock, confirm by taking feed from neutral input straight to red wire(pretty sure red!) in past have replaced lock and took a feed from neutral as board has blown, this sometimes works but at the end of program the door will not de-latch as the board switches off neural and the lock cools, so cust. has to turn timer to off position for lock to de-latch.
dont know what would happen if they went on holiday and left washer on! hopefully the lock would just burn out?!?

ParticipantRe: Strange fault on Indesit washing machine – stumped!
i’ll have a guess because thats all these are worth?
1.brushes low
2.wiring between motor module if ones off or loose it will play up the same as if brushes low ie. no fault code
3. board defective, or eprom same if replace for new suspect this, we used to order up 2 boards and 2 eproms when worked for merloni
4. insulation test on motor? just a thought?
5. if none of the above swiftly take a large lump hammer out of tool box and a good few swift strikes, i always warn the machine of this prior to any inspection or repair
