I agree with you there. Fixed the dryer in the end, just like the other two said – worn felt. Bit of a design fault there other than that the front bearings hardly has any wear on it so did not renew those.

The pulley and the belt was a bit of a palaver, very tricky to put the belt on, once its on then you are away. Had to buy circlip pliers, managed without one for years but this time had to use it.

    Far too many screws!

    Thanks guys,

It was a “trade-in” as the original owner didn’t want to spend much on the tumble dryer and plumped for a little more hard wearing such as White Knight. The owner got really impatient during the run up to Christmas which was why I was asked to supply new dryer instead of repair.

I brought the dryer home and have a look to see if it is worth repairing or scrap it. These tumble dryers don’t worth much selling second hand. Will keep you posted…

So no one knows what is the correct dosage of detergent for any machines?

The detergent manufacturer tells you on the ruddy packet how much to use. Drum size (volume) does not enter into the equation, no mystery, no variables either. Just a basic guideline that is suitable for all makes of machine, all models.

All you need to know is the rough weight of washing you intend to wash and the hardness level of the wash water for a perfect wash every time. It has to be that simple in order even the most gormless person is to have half a chance of getting it right.

    Ok Martin,

Can you tell me why the dosage is measured in millilitres when the package is weighed in kilograms? Surely would it be better if the dosage is measured in grams so that people have a better idea on costings and easier working out by weighing it and mark the cup out for future reference. The gormless person wouldn’t know the difference between millilitres and grams. Couldn’t the manufacture supply cardboard cups like they used to so that the consumer know what they are measuring?

    Slightly :offtopic:

So no one knows what is the correct dosage of detergent for any machines? Is it a case of trial and error to see if a white boxer shorts is free from skid marks? If not then apply more powder until it comes out pure white, failing that buy a new pair and wear once every time?

And how does the A+++ applies to the machine and is it program specific or just the 60degrees cotton wash? Can anyone be sure on how efficient their A rated machine?

Re: Ariel or Almat, Which is best?

I am not confused, just that the dosage of the powder as Ken said have not changed. I am trying to understand the logic as the drum size got bigger, does this means the water consumption has remained the same thus the dosage of the powder remained the same regardless the size of the drum? The eco setting to get the best use of the A rated be it single plus or three pluses only applies to specific program often uses less water which may lead to over foaming. The quick wash (30 to 1hr program) often uses a lot more water than the eco setting just like the 80’s and 90’s machine.

Most of my customers want speed rather than economy and plumped for the best A rated machine even though it would not make any difference to them in terms of economy, therefore the dosage of the powder does affect the type washing program they use if they use the quick wash program. Quick wash means more water thus more powder, the eco wash means less water thus less powder. So my query being is there a ratio of powder to water in order to be effective?

For example :- To make cement, you need one part cement powder and two parts water and you get the product, so my logic being does this applies to washing detergent (not that I am suggesting to put cement mix in the soap drawer to see what happens although I would have liked to on certain machine!)

    Does this make sense?

Re: Ariel or Almat, Which is best?

Are you saying that the water consumption remained the same throughout while the drum got bigger and at the same time more “efficient”? Note how I used the inverted comma, my opinion that most of my customers wants quick wash rather than wait for 4 hours which meant their A+++ machine is no different than their old A rated machine therefore the savings were wiped out because of the quick wash.

You are right about the confusion on dosage so would it be better to use tablets then?

Re: Ariel or Almat, Which is best?

I even produced a small leaflet for my customers to decide on the choice of washing powder/liquid. Most people don’t realise that the dosage instructions are for 5kg drum. Most if not all of my customers own 7 – 8 kg drum. This means more detergent.

Re: Fagor oven timer cutting out

My experience with Fagor oven especially pyrolitic types are hit n miss. Sounds like board relay and it’s costly to replace. Check for relays on the board, usually they are semi transparent, if you see black marking then you have the culprit. I think there are 4 relays.

I think I still have the new board somewhere. Don’t know if this would fit this model.

Have you tried switching off from the wall and put it back on again? Sometimes it helps. Also extract the water from salt chamber and refill with clean water refit lid. Even try disconnect inlet hose from rear of dishwasher then refit.

Re: Whirlpool dishwasher G2PDWI – skipping program

Discovered an F4 fault code, the weird thing was that the water fill works, the wash motor works, heater works and the drain works. All that on quick wash but not the normal wash.

I guess the board is goosed. The recent job was the heater replacement due to low insulation perhaps the board was already goosed by then caused by the low insulation and never been right since despite being in working order for the quick wash. I couldn’t test the normal wash at the time due for obvious reasons, did not have the time to sit it through.

Re: Whirlpool washer awo/d 8140 blown board but repaired

Turned out that the board overheated caused by mains power being left on 24/7.

That still leaves the “missing” earth for the motor. Won’t do any harm by attaching earth to the motor casing.

Just a case to work out where to piggy back from the earth lead to the motor.

Lee8 does sound a lot like my brother who unfriended me from Facebook. He’s a Electrician by trade with 20 years experience and 6 years of college before that. He thinks he has the answer to the world problems but his own despite having an autistic son which he refused to acknowledge the condition.

He took a disliking that I spent two weeks training to be a domestic appliance engineer, two days to be qualified PAT tester.

At the end of the day, if people do a good job and proved they are capable and willing to learn then those people should be encouraged rather than put down.
