ParticipantAh I see. Well on that Ikea machine, the first thing I tried to do was to take the top off and couldn’t. Can’t remember which way I pulled, but it wasn’t budging. Fortunately it wasn’t essential to doing the job I needed to do.
On this machine I looked inside from the back and saw the earth wire or something is fastened to the lid and was wondering if that was why it was riveted on.
If it’s a sliding off fixing/locating rivet it may be worth a go.
Thanks for that, I’ll get back to the customer and see what she says.

ParticipantIf even you Dave don’t know the answer to that one…

ParticipantSadly not, that would be too easy!
Saw the same thing on an Ikea tvattad, also made by Electrolux. Was a brand new one, so much for making appliance repairable…

ParticipantASWO is very good, price wise sometimes not the cheapest and the size of their parcels is ridiculous, but customer service is excellent. In my case, I almost always use standard delivery which sometimes takes only 2 days. Not a fan of DHL with no delivery time slots, but they do come next day.

ParticipantThat’s where I’ll be getting it from if customers decide to go for it.
Still works out around £50 with VAT and P&P, and that’s without my cut.September 13, 2022 at 11:14 am in reply to: John Lewis washer dryer JLWD1614 auto dry finishing too soon #483411washingmachinewoman
ParticipantI feared you might say that! Rather expensive try it and see on this machine as you can’t just change the dryer heater, you have to change the whole assembly.
I often get these readings, starts low but 1 second later, if that, is over 550MOhms, on machines that are perfectly fine…
Anyway the customer is going to have a think about it.

ParticipantSo I went back to this machine as there is still a problem. Checked the dryer heater insulation immediately after it aborts the drying cycle ( which is just as it starts to heat and happens on all cycles, whether timed or auto). It first gives me a low value, sometimes even 0, but after 1 second jumps to a good value.
Everything else checks out.
Is it indicative of an earth leak?
Unfortunately I totally forgot to do a diagnostic check

ParticipantI always do an insulation test of the whole machine before I start work. Value was good.
Must admit when that is the case I don’t go and check the insulation of each component, so worth a shot.washingmachinewoman
ParticipantBrilliant, thank you!

ParticipantHi Dave,
I don’t have access to the old part. Customer is asking for a quote via text message.
As for the website, which URL are you using? I can only find 16 products for washing machines in total (https://www.miele.co.uk/e/spare-parts-for-washing-machines-1387047-c). There is a mention somewhere of phoning them, but I don’t want to do that just yet.Just wondering if anyone on here has access to parts numbers via a different route?
Also found on one parts website for consumers: Unfortunately Miele have changed their sales policy and this applies to all online spare parts retailers in UK and Europe.
We are no longer able to sell Genuine Miele spare parts direct to consumers, only to repair engineers.Lucie

ParticipantCould it have been the selector switch? I didn’t really have time to check each and every connection to it.
And also I meant *low insulation* not low resistance.
