ParticipantRe: LG D1453WF dishwasher blows trip.
Turned out to be nothing wrong with the dishwasher itself! (even after I had it back in the workshop with 2 RCDs in line and all was perfect for 3 straight days of continuous use).
I returned the machine and it threw their trip inside 3 minutes of starting and just as the motor was ramping up to speed so I put it down to the house domestic supply. Customer got an electrician to test the wiring and he concluded the induction motor when it’s starting up causes a 50Hz pulsing that can in some cases throw a sensitive RCD without disturbing the MCB directly supplying the machine. Seems to be an uncommon but known issue!!???
Well I’ve either been living in a cave or now believing in fairies and Santa as I’ve never heard of such an issue with induction motors with inverter boards causing any such fault with RCDs.
Anyone aware of this anomaly? Or is this not just another ‘technological advancement’ that moves one step forwards to take four backwards?

One more question….. do these sensors fail often and is there anything obvious that causes it?

Thanks for the replies.
I was interested to find out what it did as it didn’t throw a fault code. I guessed it might be an OOB sensor and even though I found the 3G sensor on BSH site I wasn’t sure exactly what it did. Thanks again!

Have you have been using those liquitabs with the gungy residue? This is common if low temperatures are always used with certain types of liquitab. The residue is like clear to grey slimy ‘bluetack’ type deposits. Try a 90 degree service wash with bio powder first; see if that helps.
Looking mechanically, the gunge could be the door seal or rear bearing housing to tub seal (also grey) – one or both could be soft and sticky by now but both are still readily available. Enamelled metal outer tub and stainless steel inner drum…… little to cause grey gungy deposits apart from the culprits mentioned above.
The RW801 was the same as the Z818T / 918T series – bulletproof machines – Zanussi stuff is a mere shadow of what it was. Shame; but again it illustrates this industry’s ‘race to the bottom’ mentality where the price ticket always wins over quality and longevity.aqualectric
ParticipantRe: Whirlpool to do a recall on Hotpoint dryers
Featured again at 12pm on Radio 4 “You and yours” with fire chief fella calling for a compulsory recall of all these driers. Haven’t looked to see if it’s on the BBC I player yet…..

Tested the motor today and the internal TOC has indeed gone O/C. New motor methinks…….. 😉

Brush split and jammed in the holder! New brushes fitted and reset procedure 3 times and it burst into life!
Thanks Dave for the pointers – when you have a :poo: week and every job is long, dirty, fiddly or difficult to diagnose, you start to lose interest and with it your ability to think straight. But it worked and now I’m going to try the other machine with remarkably the same issues….. wish me luck!Steve.

Yep, tried all that. The interlock arrived yesterday so going to see if that works. Probably not seeing the week I’ve had…….. 😈
Thanks,

I didn’t have time to finish testing the motor after fitting the brushes as there was a very busy and impatient – to – go – out pensioner huffing and puffing in the background; you just can’t concentrate…… 👿
Just asking about module problems with these as both parts are expensive. I’m pretty sure a motor will solve it: there are too many pointers on the original to ignore. But doing your homework can sometimes help! Thanks Electrofix for the response; I’m going to go and test it again before ordering the motor.
Cheers,
Steve.

ParticipantRe: E10 error on John Lewis washing machine during drying cy
The valve has three outlets – two to the dispenser and one for the drier condenser. E10 is a family of codes for valve related issues; engineers will look in the diagnostics to get an E11, E12 etc. to identify the culprit.
Makes little difference in this case as the valve is one unit.Unplug before investigating! :plug:

Water is taken in during the drying cycle to condense the steam. The valve is faulty.

ParticipantRe: Hotpoint IWDE126(UK) Door lock issues.
Hi Wilf,
No burning at all and I replaced the lock and tightened the connections. Swapped the old and new interlocks back and forth – no difference. I can’t work out why the machine will do a cycle perfectly but just won’t release the door after the cycle has finished unless the plug is pulled. Thanks again,
Steve.
